Debtor's prisons are supposedly outlawed in America, not any more it seems. Little by little the government is whittling away at Americans rights, or shall I say "privileges". You guys still in USA better wake up and get your ass out of there within the next few years or your gonna get f***ed.

I've given up on America and am actively searching now to get a second citizenship somewhere, before the shit really hits the fan and the government tries to recall American citizens back to America for what ever reason they think of. You laugh now but our passports are only a privilege and not a right so they can be taken away from us by the USA government if they wish. Only a matter of time now, me thinks...

A little over the top?: SWAT team launch dawn raid on family home to collect unpaid student loans

A father was dragged from his home and handcuffed in front of his children by a SWAT team looking for his estranged wife - to collect her unpaid student loans.
A stunned Kenneth Wright had his front door kicked in by the raiding party at 6 am yesterday before being dragged onto his front porch, handcuffed and led to a police car with his three children.
He says he was then detained for six hours while officers looked for his wife - who no longer lives at the house.

Mr Wright was later told by Stockton police that the order to send in the SWAT team came from The U.S. Department of Education who were looking for his estranged wife to collect defaulted loan payments.
Speaking to ABC News 10, a visibly shaken Mr Wright described what happened when he was woken by a banging on his front door.
He said: 'I look out of my window and I see 15 police officers.
Dressed in his boxer shorts, Mr Wright says he rushed downstairs and was about to open the door when it was kicked open.
An officer then grabbed him by the neck before dragging him out onto the front lawn.
His 3, 7, and 11-year-old children were also removed by officers and put in a waiting police car.
'He had his knee on my back and I had no idea why they were there,' Mr Wright said.
'They put me in handcuffs in that hot patrol car for six hours, traumatising my kids.'

The Department for Education refused to comment on the incident, saying they would not do so until the case was closed.
They did however confirm that their Office of the Inspector General had issued the search warrant.
The office has its own branch of federal agents that carry out search warrants and investigations.
Mr Wright is now trying to get compensation for the destroyed door.
Speaking to ABC, he demonstrated that although the door had been patched up, the handle no longer worked.
He said: 'They busted down my door for this.
'It wasn't even me.
'All I want is an apology for me and my kids and for them to get me a new door.'
He even had words of advice for anyone thinking of skipping paying their college bills.
He added: 'People who have student loans , pay your bills, take care of your credit.
'If you don't belive me, this could be you one morning 6 o'clock.'

Do you notice how submissive the man is? Alternative citizenship is worth getting.
Unfortunately, Philippines passports are worth almost nothing. Two possibilities
in the Americas- Chile and Nevis-St Kitts. I am looking into both.
As the USA facing looming default and continuing collapse, I see little hope
for the country. If Obama is re-elected it is a done deal. The USA will be over
as we have known it.

Yeah, my long term plan it to get out of Asia and move to South America. I've been doing research and it will be the safest place to be. the northern hemisphere of the planet is a ticking time bomb. The southern is much less populated and not as polluted. Plus if there is a war among the major powers in the future the aftermath pollution stays in which ever hemisphere it originated, So all the nuke countries are in the north. It doesn't take brains to compute that survival is going to be a lot more challenging for people in the Northern latitudes if shit goes down.

Yeah, long term the Philippines is really a death trap if global commerce ever comes to a halt or something interrupts it. The country can't sustain its own population and has to import everything practically. If that system ever broke there would be absolute chaos in the PI and infrastructure would just collapse, with many deaths in the millions probably.

I'm planning to get the process of 2nd citizenship somewhere within 5 years or so. Then move there for good within 10 or less. Sooner if I can, but I'm just being realistic.

Student loans. There should not be any. In Saudi Arabia, all education is free. Same in Kuwait. They really take care of their people in those countries.

its all TAXES...you pay for it one way or another. no govt is generous.

If you have no other options, you can always walk across the Mexican border. There are quit a few people here avoiding US arrest warrants.

1. Based on some of the comments, it sounds like something else may have been involved such as some sort of fraud. Watch for follow-ups to this story.

2. I tend to agree with your general views on the US. Just understand, moving oversea gives you only very limited protection. Until you secure a new passport, you are tied to the US, many of its federal laws, and enforcement actions. Your US passport is property of the State Department and can be can be arbitrarily canceled at anytime. It can also be used as a tool to extradite you via certain countries' immigration control at borders and airports. Just consider what happened to American chess star Bobby Fischer. Fortunately for him, he was able to use his celebrity and special relationship with Iceland to secure a second passport during his incarceration in Japan.

If you are planning to get a second citizenship, you should probably get started ASAP. As time passes, many of the opportunity windows will likely close. The fast economic programs will get more expensive and/or may even be canceled. On the US side, new laws will be enacted making the process slower and more restrictive. At some point, they may outlaw dual citizenship which would force you to revoke your US citizenship in order to gain a new one. But this requires a tax clearance and a possible exit tax depending on your assets and income. The exit tax bar may be lowered in the future. You likely will need proof of a clean criminal record and no outstanding warrants or indictments to be accepted by about any new country for naturalization.

Certain countries with a high degree of natural wealth per capita (citizens) tend to be very generous. If a country is oil rich and has a relatively small population, the government may get the bulk of its revenue from taxing the oil companies, not citizens. Perhaps this is the case in Saudi.

In Saudi and in Kuwait, there are no taxes. Oil revenues pay for all that.

Immigration doesn't seem to bother gringos, many of whom live in Mexico for years without a proper visa. In Mexico, if you keep a low profile, nobody bothers you. It's not like the US. One guy I met was performing house maintenance jobs. Mexican-Americans who have families in Mexico can always return.

In the meantime, you get stranded in Mexico with no option to travel to any of the other 200+ countries on the planet. And what do you do if your money runs out?

That's why I prefaced my comment with "If you have no other options". However, people are doing it everyday who think outside the system. We may not be as trapped as we think we are.

In Thailand, you could become a Buddhist monk. Do you think the police are going to bother you? The village women supply you with delicious food every day, and you can walk from monastery to monastery and you always have a place to sleep. You carry everything you own in a simple sack. In the railway stations, you can relax at the "Monk only" waiting seats.
