The situation is much worse than you think, it not just AOC. There is good reason why AOC wont debate anyone. AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez), the bartender, is not running the show at all. AOC is a carefully selected actress, one who was picked out of 10,000 candidates. Playing a cast role she is reading a script prepared for her by others. AOC is a puppet. Sometimes AOC babbles incomprehensible nonsense, this is when she is going off script.

AOC had nothing to do with the creation of the Green New Deal. Saikat Chakrabarti is the highly effective man behind this and others from The Sunrise Movement like Corbin Trent, Zack Exley, Alexandra Rojas. These extremist are known as the Justice Democrats, they are the actual brains behind AOC. And Cenk Uygur is behind all of this, he hired the brightest and best from the Bernie campaign to execute a hostile takeover of the Democratic Party. Another one they put in was the compulsive Jew hater Illman Omar which the established Democrats have now disowned. The Justice Democrats are in the process of taking over the Democratic Party. They are primarily interested in the acquisition of power. They leverage aspects of resentment/grievance ideologies like Social justice, Intersectionality, Feminism, Socialism, Racial Superiority, Anti-meritocracy, Anti-Colonialism or Nazism.

The current Democrats are weak and barely understand what is going on. These Justice Democrats are the worst of the SJW's, far more extreme than Bernie Sanders. If what you are saying is true, it just keeps getting better. The old evil establishment Democrats have been caught wrong footed, as they were with Trump, but with the amount of Jewish money they have access to, I don't see how they can ultimately lose. Then when the forces of evil have exhausted themselves with infighting the good guys can take over.

I agree with Cornfed: UBI will become a necessity as technology advances, and fewer people are needed in the workplace.

UBI would serve as a disincentive for people to train or retrain to take on these more sophisticated jobs.

No, current welfare does that. If you would receive a UBI to live on and it would never be cut no matter what, you would have every incentive to also work to buy nice stuff. Work would be more rewarded than it is now.

Higher tech jobs require people to maintain and repair those technologies. So while McDonalds might need fewer cashiers, they would need more electronic kiosk technicians to service and maintain them.

But it is a case of a few jobs replacing thousands. In any case a 50 year old average IQ low skilled worker is not going to be able to snap his fingers and become an automation engineer or whatever, but I don't think that means he should starve after doing his best for decades. It is not like everyone can get to sponge off federal pensions or the like.

UBI is simply a means to inject more permanant consumption into the economy. It is also merely a wealth distribution tool that is funded by the upper strata of taxpayers.

What is wrong with a consumption economy where there is no work to be done? Suppose we have our Star Trek replicators and robots waiting on us hand and foot. Why can't we just enjoy this and consume? Why must we starve to death in the midst of plenty? Is the sole purpose of everyone other than federal pensioners to do hateful work?

The rightist response to the problems of automation is laughably bad. Just old white men (and their lackeys i.e. @Contrarian Expatriate ) desperately clinging to the past. They dismiss the threat of automation and AI because it explodes their entire worldview. If humans were no longer economic actors in such a world then it becomes impossible to determine their economic value in a free market. It's a tough pill to swallow, but it's just the first step in the massive rethinking that the rise of AI will force humanity to undergo. Even if Yang wins and implements his freedom dividend, I can only imagine what he can do once AI becomes more generalized and more intelligent than humans, though at least he is thinking about it.
