Marriage Patterns for Asian Women in the US by Race
Posted: February 11th, 2014, 5:33 pm
Found some interesting data about who Asian women in the US are married to by race. The source is http://www.asian-nation.org/interracial.shtml and there is a ton of data there, but I will try to narrow it down to the most interesting stuff below. Go to the source if you want all of the data.
The stats below show for each of the six largest Asian populations in the US, who the women are married to by race. The first number is the percent of all marriages for that Asian group in the US and the second number is the percent of only US raised members of that Asian group. The first number will include foreign raised and US raised individuals while the second number will only include US raised individuals. In every case, except Japanese, the Asian women marry a lot less of their own group after their 2nd generation in the US.
When you look at all Asian women marriages in the US (foreign raised women and US raised women), here are some interesting stats:
Most likely to marry men from their own country = Asian Indian women at 93% - but their second generation in US drops to 52%
Least likely to marry men from their own country = Japanese women at 44%
Most likely to marry other Asian men not from their home country = Japanese women at 8%
Least likely to marry other Asian men not from their home country = Asian Indian women at roughly 1%
Most likely to marry white men = Japanese women at 38% followed by Filipinas at 27% and Korean women at 24%
Also interesting that over half, 58%, of US raised Korean women marry white men.
Least likely to marry white men = Asian Indian women at 5%, but their second generation women marry white men at 38%
Most likely to marry black men = Filipinas at about 3% followed by Japanese women at 2%.
US raised Filipinas marry black men at about 4% followed by US raised Asian Indian women at about 3%.
Least likely to marry black men = Vietnamese women at 0.2% closely followed by Chinese women at 0.3%.
Most likely to marry Latino men = Filipinas at about 4% followed by Japanese women at 3%.
US raised Filipinas marry Latino men at 8.5%
Least likely to marry Latino men = Asian Indian women at 0.4% followed by Vietnamese at about 1%.
