Taiwan is not such a great place to look around for women for a long-term relationship, just my opinion.

Taipeh is however a good organized city, with Japanese-like nightlife, cheaper than Tokyo or Seoul and a fairly safe place, with a lot of sightseeing possibilities when you like short travels around the island.

The really good thing I found there is the climate, it is warmer in winter-time than in Japan or in HongKong.

Chinese men in Taiwan are well-known to look around in all Asia for a foreign (Asian) wife.

I cannot comment about language issues, as I am good in spoken and written Japanese, I can read a lot of Chinese.
Many people in Taiwan can speak some Japanese, so I never have any problem to find my way around.

Depends on what kind of woman you are looking for. Normal Taiwanese girls don't jump from train to train like many American women do. From what I've heard, they are actually quite loyal too. Relationship between locals tend to last for years than months. It is not unusual for a Taiwanese girl to be with the same guy for 8 years then get married.

On the flip-side of the coin, most of the hottest girls are locked down in these super long relationships. Good luck try to get with them

1. Why not? They may not be so easy to get but they tend to be loyal, serious, educated, clean, and well presented.

2. Warmer in winter than Japan but not HK. Plus, it rains a lot more in Taipei than HK in winter so it actually feels bone chilling cold cus temp averages around 60 and there's usually no heat anywhere.

3. Yes, the ones who can't cut in in Taiwan (poorer, less educated, older, etc.) have a much better shot with Vietnamese country gals.

4. Many people in Taiwan can speak some English. But Japanese for 99%+ of working age population boils down to a few sentences, nothing of use in practical communication. However, their great grandparents (if still alive) from the 40s and 50s can generally speak good Japanese. So you must have been getting directions from 80 something year olds lol.

Climate in HongKong is not warmer in January/February compared to Taipeh. Just my experience so far, but maybe I was just unlucky as I stay only a few days during my short visits. There are rather cold winds during winter, nighttime, in HK it is getting really quite cold, sometimes below +10C. - Yes, true, as an island, Taiwan can get a lot of warm rain in summer, I don't know what is better, cold wind or warm rain, I don't like both of them.

As our older daughter moved out from HongKong and is now back in Japan, we prefer a direct flight and vacation in Thailand during wintertime and just back in Tokyo now, 3 weeks without a single day of rain and cold wind.

What I have seen so far, I am more with WinstonWu about women in Taiwan. Not easy to find any reliable woman there for a long term relationship, while the usual tourist short-time service is no problem. Taiwan is open to nightlife similar to Japan, very little restrictions.

As a Western foreigner in Taiwan or HongKong, I would probably look around within the Filipino community for a long-term girlfriend or future wife, but of course this is an individual opinion.

To call men in Taiwan (or other Asian men) who are looking for a foreign wife to be less educated, older etc... I don't think so. By far not all men, of any race, who are internationally married are 'old' and with 'country girls'.

About the Japanese language - it is an important language for many people in Taiwan, who are into international trade and tourism and further there is a large community of Japanese/Chinese existing in both countries who have extensive knowledge of both languages. It can be said that the writing system is about 70 percent so similar, that even a Chinese from Taiwan who never had any contact with Japan can understand what is written in a Japanese newspaper.

It must be very low educated Chinese grown up in Taiwan, an illiterate, who might be totally unable to see the similarity between these both languages, especially in written form. - Of course old people in Taiwan were forced to learn Japanese, while the young generation will study it to improve their job qualification.
