Anybody gone through Poipet, Cambodia

I understand it used to have the biggest red light district in the world.

Also, I've heard that drivers that claim to be for rent to go to Phnom Phen kill their farang customers.

Now, travel by land from Thailand to Cambodia is not possible. Border points to/from Cambodia are closed.

I came several times into Cambodia and back via Poipet.
However I never took a taxi so far up to Phnom Penh - this is more than 400 km.

I used taxi only up to Battambang, about 120 km, the second largest city in Cambodia.
There are various hotels available, and there are several buses leaving from Battambang to Phnom Penh every day.

From Poipet there were 3 types available - depends how much you pay
1 - taxi is only for you and will leave immediately, nonstop to Battambang
2 - taxi will leave immediately, but will pick up passengers while on the way to Battambang
3 - taxi will not leave until at least 4 people agree for a shared ride to Battambang

I paid in USD but I forgot how much, for taxi, leaving immediately only with me. Never a problem.
I think, I gave him 20 USD.

Poipet to Siem Reap is a bit farer than Battambang, about 150 km, also daily bus service several times to Phnom Penh.

Poipet? Not really, this is a forgettable shanty town next to the border on the Cambodian site.
On the Thai side, a little away from the border (a tricycle will bring you there) the small city of Aranyaphathet is much nicer.

Poipet is only known for Thai people because of gambling (casino) which is illegal in Thailand.
