My mother, a California resident, once visited me on Boracay and then went back home to the Inner Empire. Upon her return, she was asked by the neighbors where she'd been. And she said,
"Boracay".
"What's that?"
"It's an island, in the Philippines".
"What's Philippines?"
"It's a country".
"Never heard of it".
"You mean you haven't met any Filipino people? It's the country where they live. You know Filipinos, don't you?"
"I've never heard of such people."
