"No Russians" Tours

Post by ladislav »

In Western Europe the "No Russians guaranteed" tours are gaining popularity. Peaceful families from Holland and the UK do not want to be in Turkey or Egypt with husbands watching Russian teenies in G-strings or seeing drunk Russian men make trouble. Noisy rumbunctious behavior, drunken binges and sexual libertinism drives such tourists insane.

Western Euros are willing to pay extra to make sure that where they are going, there will be no Russians around.

Why do foreign tourists hate Russians?

The research was conducted by Esme Visser, a specialist of Eastern Europe. She personally questioned hundreds of tourists and used several hundreds of comments which she gathered at hotels and online forums. She was interested in most popular destinations with Russian tourists – Turkey, Egypt and Arab Emirates. For example, over 1.5 million Russian vacationers visited Turkey in 2006 alone.

The researcher said that she was shocked to hear so much criticism of Russians from Dutch tourists. About 40 percent of opinions included in the research touched upon Russian tourists, most of them contained complaints. There were positive comments, but they were in minority. To crown it all, there were hardly any complaints about tourists of other nationalities.

The phenomenon even led to the development of a new trend in tourism, known as “tours without Russians.

“It does look like national discrimination. However, there is a certain demand on such tours in Europe . Such an offer can be formulated differently. A tourist agency may say that they have purchased all the rooms in a hotel especially for tourists from the Netherlands.

Many Russian and Dutch tourists prefer ‘all inclusive’ tours because they try to avoid surprises. They book such tours because they only seek comfortable, not adventurous holidays.

“I interviewed hotel managers and personnel and asked them to compare two groups of tourists – Russian and Dutch. The respondents complained of the Russians mostly. They said that Russian tourists were often aggressive and noisy and preferred to stay in their hotels all day and all night long. The Dutch, however, prefer to communicate with local population and visit local shops and cafes, the researcher said.

Many Russians coming to Turkey or Egypt do not know English or speak it poorly. Many of them are simply unable to communicate with either other vacationers or hotel personnel. In addition, the Russian style of body language differs greatly from that of the West.

For example, Russians hardly ever smile. They smile when they hear or see something funny or when they communicate with their friends. However, they consider it weird to smile to strangers in the street. However, a smile is considered a token of friendliness with many foreigners.

I can't stand fake smiles and hospitality, which America is filled with and to some respect in the Philippines as well. I've always had problems in America and working for Western companies cause the majority expects you to put on a "nice" act and pretend everything is hunky dory in your work place or whenever your just out and about. I don't like fake happiness with no substance behind it. I've often misinterpreted by others because I don't smile and I look serious a lot.

In that respect I think I would fit in with Russans since I think it's perfectly logical not to be grinning like an idiot to strangers all the time and I would save true smiles and laughter for close friends and family or when something ACTUALLY is funny or one is TRUTHFULLY enjoying themselves.

I'm kinda stuck in a place however that totally overdoes the smiling and trying to be nice thing. Going shopping or eating in the Philippines is torture for me cause you can't get rid of everyone trying to be ice to the "white foreigner". However, when dealing with these people there is a 50% chance that they are probably incompetent in regards to whatever job they happen to be doing. So when going out in the Philippines one needs to pay attention to whom their dealing with in whatever circumstance it is.

I hate shopping in the Philippines, especially at SM, the most annoying store in all the Philippines. But because SM has almost a total monopoly on decent malls/department stores one has to go there on a regular basis usually. The other two store chains Ayala and Robinsons are better but there are less of them and they usually are in harder to reach locations. SM is where it is today cause it grabs the best real estate and goes from there.

Oh yeah this will end well.

Let's ostracize that enormous land mass to our east.

It's not as though the Russian character isn't suspicious of the outside world, or that they haven't occupied vast swathes of Central and Eastern Europe by force, or that they have a mild complex after losing empire.

Where do these Russians go for holiday? They sound like my crowd.

I guess I have to join in with you guys. I absolutely hate fake smiles in the US and after many years I can't make myself smile for no reason. So American girls come up to me asking me "Why are you so sad?" :) Jeez, I am not sad, I am just "NOT" smiling!!! Drives me nutz!

As I wrote in other topics, favorite destinations for Russian tourists are Turkey, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Egypt. Pretty much all of the FSU countries go to those countries for vacation. So yeah - G-string everywhere. Hahahaha, oh how shocked I was to find out that American chicks NEVER wear G-string swimsuits and everyone gets shocked if someone does, like it's a freaking UFO just landed. US is the most close-minded society I've seen in the Western World, but hey - Hollywood movies show otherwise.

Oh yeah, I love to be loud too. I had many complains from my apartment neighbors for loud music, but then they just gave up lol :)

I remember when I lived in the Netherlands seeing a survey that more Dutch stay home and work on their houses then go on vacations. Camping is also popular in Europe because of the expensive hotel prices. Also popular are the tour companies where you buy these packaged group tours to a location and they take care of everything. The Brits also have a reputation for being rowdy vacationers.

PS: The Pravda article seemed a little biased - at one point the article was talking about how beautiful Russian women are in their bikinis and that the Dutch women were uncomfortable that the Dutch men were looking. I find that a little hard to believe, given that I was in several Dutch saunas with both men and women and everyone is expected to be naked.

Pravda ( which is translated as Truth) does lie or exaggerate/distort facts liberally. It would be a good newspaper to read to balance out some US tabloids except that US tabloids do not cover world events as much but Pravda does. In its own distorted way.
However, I would not discount this article, because if you google Tours without the Russians, a lot of stuff will come up.

“As a rule, Russian women are good-looking and feminine individuals. They go out wearing expensive outfits and exquisite makeup even in hotels. They do not hesitate to wear a skimpy bikini and walk around a pool exposing their slim bodies. Dutch wives find it especially irritating because their husbands give dirty looks to such women, the researcher said".

Maybe in the Dutch saunas the women did not look as good?

They looked good to me. I would go to the Sauna in Harleem where the college coeds would hang out.

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY (WKBW) -- 30 members of the Russian hockey team were kicked off a Delta Airlines flight Thursday morning at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
The team members were allegedly rowdy and drunk, according to eyewitnesses and airport staff members.

Delta Airlines released a statement from its Atlanta headquarters.
"To ensure the safe operation of the flight, the crew of flight 1266 (BUF-ATL) denied boarding to 30 passengers who were traveling together and displaying unruly behavior. The passengers are being re-booked on a future flight," said spokesperson Betsy Talton in an e-mail.
Some eyewitnesses said some of the players were vomiting at the gate.
Eyewitness News cameras were rolling when the team was standing in the airport's baggage claim area and boarding buses to a nearby hotel where the players will reportedly sober up.
Russian beat Team Canada and claimed the gold metal in the final game on Wednesday night at HSBC Arena.

Drinking before and during flights used to be routine, before the U.S. reverted to Cultural Marxist driven neo-Puritanism. Nick Nolte said that he and drinking buddies would take flights after the bars closed just to keep drinking. "The Man Show" did a routine where Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Corolla walked around an airport pretending to be drunk pilots. A show that did that now would like receive visits from the FBI, TSA, Homeland Security and others.

Russian babes on holiday? Go to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria, on the Black Sea. Check out youtube videos showing the disco action there, and I think you'll be impressed. It's also a good place to pick up a condo for $25-30K. They over-built big time before the property bubble burst in 2007.

I sent that column about the Euros seeking "non-Russian" tours to a German friend of mine, who actually works a lot in Russia. He just wrote back: "it's all true". It's like the Russians don't know how to have fun in moderation or have any concept of decorum. It's always full-bore hedonistic debauchery and ruins the atmosphere for everyone else, especially if you have a family with children. I've never understood why they're like that, honestly. Not to put too fine a point on it, but in my opinion, these are mainly the Russian "nouveaux riches"...the Beverly Hillbillies of Europe. To paraphrase the Beatles, "money can't buy you class".

You can go to Russia as a tourist, but you'll find getting a long tern visa or permission to work is Kafka-esque and basically impossible. The Govt workers will almost NEVER do their job because they hate their boss, life, career, family and can scapegoat you for all this.

Not sure about getting jobs, but Russia and especially St. Petersburg are worth visiting, in my humble opinion. Was impressed by one-day excursion in St. Petersburg: https://petersburg.expert/tour/one-day-shore-excursion/. The city is very beautiful, many interesting historical places like temples, parks, theaters. I regret that I hadn't chosen two or three-day excursion, definitely will spend a bit more time exploring the city the next time I'll be there. They also take you to the local restaurants, lots of beautiful women there.

Guess I won't be going on those tours. I don't get along well with people that blame other people for their own bullshit & then don't notice the serious bullshit that other people bring to their country.
