I wonder why Russia is a favorite place for tours to look for brides.

Fellas, notice how most of these countries are of Anglo or just European stock altogether. Maybe that's why so many men from these countries are heading to the "third" world to get themselves a non-divorcee sotospeak.

Divorce rate per capita is a meaningless number. What matters is divorces divided by marriages.

Where can we get data on both marriages and divorces since 1990 or 1980.


Dont count those who married in 50s,60s, 70s as they are old school and most of these spouses are still together and make marriage numbers look better then they are

I would not have married a divorced woman because it is against my religion. But just from a practical perspective, why would any single man who'd never been divorced himself marry a divorcee? I meet men who have done this, and I think, why would you even consider her, no matter how she looks? Especially one with kids and a baby daddy in the picture, and especially one who left her husband because it 'didn't work out.'

Divorcees are much more likely to divorce again.

Most no-fault divorce proceedings are initiated by women. I've read about 65%. Whether they just do the paperwork or if it's their idea, I don't know, but I know a lot of women just unilaterally divorce their husbands these days. The state gives women incentives to betray their spouses and divorce, since the state often gives them custody of the kids and squeezes the husband for child support and sometimes alimony, even if she cheated on him or just decided to break the covenant for foolish emotional reasons. If men totally boycotted marrying divorced women, that would greatly decrease the incentive to divorce.

Of course that's called rewarding bad behavior or in political terms, rewarding failure.

Since the approx. 50% divorce rate has been true for several decades in all the Western countries, your assumption can't be true - those 50 and 60-somethings all were married as young people during the era of 50% divorce rates. Nearly everyone I know in their 50s and 60s has been divorced at least once. You have to go at least one generation further back to get to those people who really believed in the sanctity of marriage. So you might be right for people in their 80s and 90s. Frankly I am glad that some of those still exist; it shows the rest of us what a long-term marriage can be like.

Another factoid: Statistics show that 2nd marriages actually have a slightly higher divorce rate than 1st marriages, but 3rd marriages have a lower divorce rate. Some people make the assumption that this is because by the 3rd marriage the people have matured and learned how to do it. Maybe, but I'm not so sure. It's more likely that by a 3rd marriage the couple is much older and death to one or the other occurs before a divorce could have happened.

It's a concern in countries who are going through what the US did when the boomer generation was young, where the old folks stayed married and the young folks had a lot of divorce. It's good to get a feel for social trends like that in the country and to know the philosophy your potential bride has been raised with. If there is a growing acceptance among the young for divorce, you need to make sure your potential wife is not a part of the trend and rejects the new philosophy.
