Probably because it is going bust but fully vaccinated Brits will be able to visit Thailand from next month! Probably means anyone else can also but I heard it on British radio so check your local news provider - I know this will be good news for @Yohan Jerry and a fair few others who have been waiting patiently for things to get back to normal! Good luck with your travels! :D

Thanks for your nice words, Yick, however what the Thai government considers as 'open' and what I consider as 'open' are 2 very different things.
It depends on the region, Bangkok/Chonburi (Pattaya) still have its problems and vaccination there is going on slowly.

Covid-19 is still a threat in Thailand.

https://www.pattayamail.com/thailandnew ... r-9-375127

Ideas how to open that region (unlike Phuket, Koh Samui = islands) are changing every week. I will see if I can go this year, and if not - no problem, I can wait, my life is fine in Japan.

https://www.pattayamail.com/thailandnew ... c-1-375347
https://www.pattayamail.com/latestnews/ ... ace-375351

About Pattaya, the city is severely damaged because of floods, and there are jobless people, beggars etc. everywhere and may shops and hotels etc. are closed.

----------------------------

The good news however is about Japan, after a huge mass vaccination campaign over 3 months, the number of acute cases during peak of 231.596 patients went rapidly down during the last 4 weeks to today only 11.785 patients, now about 93 million Japanese people are vaccinated and vaccinations are still ongoing everywhere.

We will see when JAPAN is finally open, it's not only for travel TO Thailand, it's for me also about coming back FROM Thailand...

Theres a lot of people who don't care if they catch covid or not. Theyre more concerned about the inconveniences of travel more than anything else. If theres any chance you can be slammed with a quarantine or a huge hospital bill just because someone tested positive or you test positive asymptomatically, anywhere along the journey, its going to sway people away from travel. I think tourism is just going to be close to dead in Thailand for at least the next 5 years. The place is going to be unrecognizable. If you're headed out to live on a farm or just hang out on the beach in Hua hin and thats your idea retirement, Thailands is still going to be great. If the nightlife you remembered from the mid-2010s is what you're after, thats going to be a long way off, if it ever does return....

Thailand lists 46 countries for Nov. 1 reopening, but still requires 1 night quarantine, insurance

Thailand will make it much easier for foreign tourists from many countries to enter only with 1 day in quarantine.
Details will be published soon and Thai Embassies will be informed to change their homepage-information and procedures.

This seems to be a final decision, as this was confirmed by the top leader Gen Prayut of the quasi military government. What the Thai PM says, has to be done.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who broke news of the 46-country list on his Facebook page, said the decision to increase the number of eligible tourists from the 10 he originally conceived was done to jolt the tourism industry back to life.
“If we wait until everything is fully ready, we’ll be too late. Besides, tourists may choose to go elsewhere,” read the post.
“This is a risk we must take. I think, like other countries, Thailand is now better equipped to deal with the risk. And we need to learn to live with it,” Prayut said.

The curfew wll also end soon in a large part of Thailand. Already signed and published.
Curfew to end in 17 tourist provinces
Prelude to reopening to vaccinated foreigners on Nov 1

The prime minister has ordered an end to the curfew in 17 provinces, including Bangkok, from Oct 31 to support the reopening of the country to fully vaccinated foreign tourists on Nov 1.

The order, signed by Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, was published in the Royal Gazette late on Thursday night.

It said the Covid-19 situation in the country was improving with stable new caseloads and faster patient recovery, and it was necessary to revive the national economy.

This is not sure, as Thailand is also vaccinating many people now, just with any vaccine which is available. Sinovac, AstraZeneca etc.

In all Japan now, we have only 6139 patients today, down from 231.596, after a massive vaccination campaign. Out of 125 million people, around 87 million people received already 2 shots, and 9 million people received 1 shot and still 20 million young people want the vaccine, but are still on the waiting list.
Now also 3rd shot is prepared and vaccination will start around end of this year, in the meantime it is the best to line up for seasonal flu and pneumonia vaccination in Japan.

The point is you have to vaccinate as many people as you can, and if infection is so aggressive like this covid-19 delta, you need at least 80 percent of the population vaccinated for the virus to fail to infect other people next to those who have already the virus.

Thailand will need still several weeks more to reach at least 70 to 80 percent vaccination rate.

I hope after Japan, Thailand will also soon be able to clean up this covid-19 mess.

The problem is covid mutates worst than many common cold variants because its essentially a cold variant with an added protein. Thats why I dont think vaccination is really going to beat this. Its really just real, acquired herd immunity, that gets you over the hump. Like for example the Amish community. It sucks for people with multiple health problems, which I am one of them, but its just sort of how things are. Covid should have never been made in the first place, but thats besides the point. I was just talking to a friend who works for the largest pay for residency visa companies in the world. He said all of his inside sources are telling him that if another variant hits, Prayut is going to institute harsh lockdowns again. Theres no democracy in Thailand anymore so the guy really doesnt care about his approval ratings. The only reason I am going back is because I plan on living in the farm country. If I were a regular expat there's no way Id consider it. Even now. Not until they promise they're not going to lock down again. Lockdowns dont really affect me much, because well, I live on farms.
