How do you get rid of a pot belly that won't go away?!
Re: How do you get rid of a pot belly that won't go away?!
Go low carb.
It's important to get 0.8-1.2 grams protein per kg of lean body mass. This is important for satisfaction and minimising hunger.
It's also important to turn from a 'carb burner' to a 'fat burner'. This can be done by getting the a greater ratio of your calories from fat rather than carbs.
Once you're fat adapted, you can then focus on spacing meals, reducing calories.

Re: How do you get rid of a pot belly that won't go away?!
Look I was right. Most men with pot bellies are never able to get rid of it. So that proves my point: If one could get rid of a pot belly or lose weight by dieting and exercising, then everyone would do that. But it's never that simple. There seems to be a script that runs reality and our destiny and our bodies and if we go against the script we lose. So we have very little control over our life, contrary to what most Americans want to think. This fitness guy agrees and says that 93 percent of men with pot bellies never get rid of it, even if they diet and exercise. Why is that? There does seem to be a script that determines things and doesn't let you change things. I'm not making excuses. Just an honest observation. Those of you who have pot bellies probably know what I mean. Have any of you ever known a man with a pot belly who completely flattened it, in real life, not on TV?

I'm pretty close to flattening my former pot belly.
Re: How do you get rid of a pot belly that won't go away?!
If you're flabby and out of shape, do real training and not some bullshit fad exercise routine. By real training, I mean do intense kickboxing sessions five times a week.Winston wrote: ↑August 6th, 2023, 4:47 pmLook I was right. Most men with pot bellies are never able to get rid of it. Kickboxing is awesome for fitness. Not only do you spend your 1 and half hour session constantly hitting pads and sparring with your training partners but also performing bodyweight exercises and circuit training.
With kickboxing five times a week, you live like a warrior. Each day you burn off calories, train the muscles and reconstitute the body. Before long, you're much more trimmed down than before and eventually you become ripped.
I recommend kickboxing training. Martial arts training is way more fun than regular exercise. It's so fun that it doesn't even feel like training. You like martial arts, right? You even showed the People's Champion your Karate moves in a video, didn't you? Take up a martial art with a significant fitness component like Kickboxing and you should note a difference in your physique within three months. Consistency is the key.
Re: How do you get rid of a pot belly that won't go away?!
My uncle did. He measured his calories to about 2000 a day. Cut out sugar and carbs. Did push-ups, cycling and bodyweight exercises. In less than a year time he became an extremely lean and muscular old man.
His pot belly was bigger than yours and he was way fatter, too.
Any non-lazy man can do it, @Winston.

I'm 49 & I walk 8k (4 miles) every morning and also another 4-5k (2 miles) throughout the day. It's sounds hard but can assure you it's not. Once you do it for 2 weeks you will shed inches fast and your body will get used to it. Then after the 3rd week you will see your stomach start to shrink. I lost 22lbs in 90 days doing this. However, I did cut back on sugar and stopped fried foods as well. And also drink lots of water. You have to sacrifice for what you want. Walking is natural anyways and our body needs water so that's simple. The sugar and fried foods are a mind thing. That's not as easy at it sounds but it's worth trying. Now I don't desire neither one. Either you want it or don't. It's that simple. No in betweens. Stop hoping for gimmicks. They don't work. Just walk and cut back on bad eating habits and you'll be happier than ever. When you look good you feel good

I agree with this. I walk every day about 3miles. It’s actually quite relaxing and able to catch up on listening to podcasts while I do it. I lost over 10 pounds in two months but I also cut a lot of junk food out. One thing I will stress is don’t weigh yourself for two months but instead listen to your body. Your overhall heath will start to improve and you will start noticing the difference in how your clothes feel.

Re: How do you get rid of a pot belly that won't go away?!
Amen. Winston, do you really think the guy in the video is saying 93 percent of people can't get rid of a pot belly no matter what they do? Talk about projection.
Do you know what he's talking about when he speaks of "macros?" The macros are carbohydrates, protein and fat, and the ratio between them. As a vegetarian, you're loaded up on carbohydrates, and face a real challenge on getting sufficient protein and fat (yes, you need plenty of dietary fat) to allow your weight to redistribute. In another video he talks about getting a gram of protein for each pound of body weight in your target body weight, ideally distributed throughout the day. How close to that are you?
Find a way to get enough protein and fat as a vegetarian -- much easier said than done -- and then it's just a matter of sticking with some progressively intense exercise program.
Re: How do you get rid of a pot belly that won't go away?!
I'd hazard a guess that Winston gets more than enough dietary fat. People on high carb very low fat diets tend to be lean, if not all that muscular.gsjackson wrote: ↑August 6th, 2023, 9:41 pmDo you know what he's talking about when he speaks of "macros?" I doubt he's getting the saturated fats he needs to redistribute his weight and lose some. Contra, of course, the standard narrative. Isn't virtually all truth?Cornfed wrote: ↑August 7th, 2023, 6:24 amI'd hazard a guess that Winston gets more than enough dietary fat. Re: How do you get rid of a pot belly that won't go away?!
Dr. Eric Berg has some good advice on losing belly fat that makes sense. See below. Couldn't I lose weight and belly fat by just eating salad only everyday for every meal? In theory that would work I guess, but the question is how sustainable it is.

@Winston Just eat mostly starch, with vegetables and fruits. No oil. The fat you eat is the fat you wear. You don't have to worry about exercising. Just eat the food, and you will gravitate toward your ideal body weight/composition. Work out to gain strength, energy, endurance, to feel better, sleep better, etc.

Re: How do you get rid of a pot belly that won't go away?!
You're eating too many processed carbs and not enough protein, when you eat your 1 gram per 1.6 kilos of bodyweight, you don't binge because when you binge, your body is telling you to consume more protein but if you consume instead doughnuts and cream cakes then your mind and body will urge you to eat more to get enough protein - the building block of the body - and the urge won't stop until you have ate your minimum amount for the day.Winston wrote: ↑June 5th, 2017, 4:59 amI watched some BBC programs on diet and exercise last week. One program said that science has discovered that theres a hormone that tells us when we have eaten enough. In slim people this hormone works and is activated and tells them when they are full. But in obese people this hormone doesnt work. So obese people dont know when they are full and stop eating. Therefore being fat or slim is not a matter of will power or character, as some assume. Science does not know how to turn this hormone on or off.
Another BBC program took a group of slim people who can eat anything and stay slim and doubled their calorie intake of food for two weeks. They found that they gained very little weight even if they ate twice as much. Their bodies simply shook off the excess calories. The conclusion was that your body picks what is your normal weight and stays there. So if your body thinks obese is normal then it will try to maintain that. Its bad news for overweight people. It means that its all in the genes and out of your control. That sucks.
One modern solution is to have surgery on your stomach. Theres a new procedure where they cut your stomach and create a new smaller stomach for your digestion. The smaller stomach holds much less food. Hence u get full a lot faster and eat a lot less. So far its proven to work for many obese people and has reduced their weight significantly.
What you think?
If you eat three protein filled meals a day plus a whey protein shake first thing in the morning then the urge to binge will disappear.
I agree with Dan Cilley to a point, legumes, beans, bulgur, buckwheat, sourdough/Russian wholemeal bread, vegetables and a good vegan protein powder will have to be central to your diet, reintroducing animal products will make this easier especially the consumption of oily fish and chicken. Oils I use, olive, avocado and a quality omega 6 oil I use sparingly,
My days eating is something like this
Whey protein shake/oatmeal or buckwheat flakes from Russia (alternate)
Chinese bacon and a fried egg with lentils.
Sardines and buckweat pasta with spinach, onions, olives, bell pepper and eggplant.
No need to binge, in fact, pretty much impossible to do so.

Re: How do you get rid of a pot belly that won't go away?!
@Winston Winston, what exactly are you eating? How many calories are you eating? Are you eating fast food? Chinese food? Fried foods? Potato chips? Donuts? Crackers? Chocolate? Ice cream? Pizza? All of these foods have a ton of fat. The fat you eat is the fat you wear, because it doesn't have to be chemically converted to fat in order to be stored, so it efficiently is stored in the fat cells. It goes "from your lips to your hips." Carbs and protein have to be converted to fat first, which takes a lot of energy, so generally you can't gain fat from eating pure carbs or protein.yick wrote: ↑November 18th, 2024, 7:43 pmYou're eating too many processed carbs and not enough protein, when you eat your 1 gram per 1.6 kilos of bodyweight, you don't binge because when you binge, your body is telling you to consume more protein but if you consume instead doughnuts and cream cakes then your mind and body will urge you to eat more to get enough protein - the building block of the body - and the urge won't stop until you have ate your minimum amount for the day.Winston wrote: ↑June 5th, 2017, 4:59 amI watched some BBC programs on diet and exercise last week. No need to binge, in fact, pretty much impossible to do so.
What you need to do is get used to eating rice, beans, corn, popcorn, potatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash, oatmeal, bananas, melons, apples, berries, grapes, dried fruit, carrots, celery, cabbage, broccoli, onions, garlic, lettuce, mushrooms, nuts and seeds, avocado, olives.
You need to stay away from all oil, butter, cheese. Oil is the worst because it is pure fat. You need to avoid all the above junk foods, in general.
You will get used to the taste of the healthy food so that you will lose interest in the junk anyway.
And you can use a lot of salt and sugar and herbs and spices on the healthy foods. You will probably stop wanting the sugar pretty quickly. Refined sugar is not attractive to me.
Right now as I am typing this, I am eating blueberries and many bananas, and I am about to eat potatoes after that.
I eat a huge volume of food, but the amount of calories I eat is relatively low, because I usually do not eat oil, cheese, butter, and foods with those ingredients in them. "Eating too much" is not the right way to think about food. You can "eat too much" starch every time--just rice or potatoes or whatever--and you will never gain fat, but will lose fat. You shouldn't think that you have to restrict your food intake, ever.
All large, successful civilizations throughout all of human history have obtained the bulk of their calories from starch. For example, in China they traditionally ate rice and vegetables, in America the native Americans ate corn, beans, and squash, in Europe they ate wheat and barley, in Africa they ate sorghum and millet and yams, in Peru they ate potatoes, etc.
The longest lived populations eat high carb, and low animal products, and no oil or probably a low amount of oil. The Mediterranean diet includes olive oil, but the oil is not why it's healthy, but everything else in the diet, such as a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, is why.
Oil is the worst food because it immediately injures the lining of the arteries, and causes weight gain so efficiently...so if you only cut out only one food, oil would have the biggest impact.
What questions do you have?
