Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations"

Post by Montanaland »

One of my favorite cable T.V.shows is starting a new season tonight. Anthony will be in Panama where he will be helping the local policia destroy tons and tons of cocaine (by fire)that I'm sure were in route to the good ol' usa.

He's a pretty articulate and animated guy...although a chef by trade so you get a lot of food scenes in the episodes and not enough "other" aspects of countries. Maybe lots of food is neutral and what is acceptable for the american viewers of his show.

Anyways its on the travel channel in case you ever want to check it out.

I admire his style of travel. He gets out there, samples the local fare, meets some cool people, then reflects on what he's found.

Perhaps what I like best about him is his lack of stereotypical American dress and behavior. I've never seen him sporting a baseball cap for fashion, he is not obese, and he knows something of other countries before he goes there.

He reminds me of myself when I travel, in fact, I've visited a couple of places that he has specifically to sample some of the foods he has. Great show that male solo travelers should emulate.

My parents watch that show. I think it's kind of boring. All he does is eat disgusting things and talk about politically correct stuff. Why doesn't he ever get any dates? lol

He's married and sometimes his wife and daughter travel with him.

I do love this show and a Canadian travel show "Departures"

Winston, perhaps you're not thinking of the right guy. Were you thinking of the bug-eating chef Andrew Zimmerman? Anthony Bourdain is certainly not politically correct. As a matter of fact, he's the typical in-your-face snarky New Yorker type, who says it like it is. That's one reason I like his show. He's also very polite overseas and not a typical ugly American. You should know his backstory: as I recall, he's a recovering cocaine addict or something, who has an edge to him that has caused him to be unhappy most of his life, although he's a great cook. He recently got married to a nice lady from Sardinia and has a child with her. He did one show on Sardinia, where you meet his wife and child and you can see that he's finally found his peace. I know at one point he was talking about taking his family and hiding out in Vietnam for a year, just to get away from the BS of modern life and enjoy the simplicity of real people. I think he's the sort of personality that might actually fit well on this forum.
