Yes, and I got out if not the day before then at least in the week that the borders closed. There does seem to be some sort of divine provenance at work.

Practically the entire world has gone too far to some extent or another. Vaccine passports are normal now. And you gotta love when governments (for instance, Thailand) mandate different and more expensive quarantine requirements for foreigners than they do for nationals even if both arrive from the same location. As if the virus checks IDs and passports before deciding whether to jump to a new host.

For sure, the most civilized countries are taking it to new levels. It's suspicious when we see policies that discriminate against the unvaccinated but nothing at all that discriminates against the obese who are very well known to be a high-risk group.

Just make sure you get a legit Mexican residence permit. I hear they're cracking down on that sort of thing.
