Some news articles say Moscow is very unfriendly?

Is that true or just Western media lies?

It depends.

I found Moscow to be great, the unfriendly people are usually in the service sector. But I found most Muscovites to be great.

Muscovites (residents of Moscow) are usually nice. However, the city is full of visitors, migrants, and so on. They may not be too willing to assist someone who is lost because they also do not know the answer to the question you are asking. The city itself is beautiful and service personnel is better trained than anywhere else in Russia. Last year they had around 17 million visitors to the city. It is also on the list of destinations on the rise for tourists worldwide. So, I certainly would say that it is the best city for a foreigner to visit, along with St. Petersburg.
Some of my friends, girls from Russia who live in Australia, go to Russia with their western husbands, who too fell in love with Moscow and tell only great things about it.
