I think there are too many rules. Whether that be "The Rules" or anything else that makes what is a natural thing into a minefield. The problem is that anglo people always try to be too clever with stuff, and they turn everything into a formula. The whole PUA thing is based in the US, particularly LA, and it's caught on in the UK. You don't get any of that stuff in non anglo countries. It's good to have game, and a lot of the PUA stuff does make sense, but the fact that there's too much emphasis on it shows that the whole dating scene in the west is dysfunctional. It's ridiculous.
