The Best Song to Describe People in America?
I think this is one of the best songs that describes life, people, and society in America and the West. I think it also sums up one of the messages of happier abroad.

Well yeah, Panda a good post for this thread.pandabear wrote:There is Los Americanos, popularized by Piero de Benedictis (originally written by Alberto Cortés)
But.....................
.......................I have been itching to rebut this Southern Cone hipster since I first heard the video here on HA. So here goes.

Big jaws, yes that's funny, and new. I had noticed some Latins have jaws like little chipmunks, so it's funny to be stereotyped in reverse. Okay.
But wearing all the colors except BLACK?
Jesus I should probably start a thread on this.
PUBLIC NOTICE -- ATTENTION -- ARMOS, LATINS, MIDDLE EASTERN RAGHEADS, ETC.
Wearing black does NOT make you look cool.
Rather it makes you look like an overlooked Goth girl in high school. Do you have liver-colored lipstick to go with that all-black outfit, Drama-Boy?
You look SILLY.
And OMG, the gringos DANCE ALL NIGHT?
Oh you little Spic Puke.
You think Whites like to dance to other people's music, meet some ARMOS. We dance BEFORE you, WITH you, AND after you. We close the party.
Oh f**k YOU you little jealous Hispanic munchkins.
Yeah I DID say that.
Here on HA, MANY of us, part-Whites like me included, love to diss the ossified Anglo culture we are leaving (or trying to leave). But BY GOD, one of the GOOD things about Anglos, one of the things they will always be remembered for, is their openness to adapt to other cultures. YES, dancing to other people's music, that too.
Who else does that? Anglos... Germans... Armos... Filipinos.
Who else?
Yeah you little provincial peninsular Argentine WOP. Who else?

Here is the original, by Alberto Cortez
Alberto does wear black.
Maybe someone could turn it around, and write lyrics about Argentinians to the same tune. It might get viral.

While Argentinians think that we're a bunch of ridiculous schmucks, if songs are any indication, then French girls seem to have a fascination with us:

Jenna Lee does a brilliant take on American High School culture. Also, she is more up on American popular culture and television shows than I am--I had to google some of her references, to see what she was talking about.
And here is Jenn Ayache - wrapping herself in the American flag:

A translation of US Boys:
It would be like in a high school dance
The quarterback would take me on the floor and the queen would tell us (hush hey)
A decor like in Desperate Housewives, oh yeah!
I could live there just to hire him as my gardener
They are bad boys from LOST, Sawyer
Nate's beauty in Gossip Girl
Ju-Ju-Justin (Timberlake)'s dancer-singer's side
A sense of humor like in Friends and a mystery like Fringe
(chorus)
US boys are French girls' dream
We want an American boyfriend forever
US boy, U-US boy, US love, U-US love
Just tell me "baby" once and I'll reach happiness
I want my own American boyfriend forever
US boy, U-US boy, US love, U-US love
I like listening to him speak, drives me crazy
All the girls think he's an idol, the neighborhood's most handsome man
To charm him I shall give him French lessons
Even if this is only a dream in my head
He has a touch of Ashton Kutcher's charm
Barney's craziness in How I Met Your Mother
Edward's romanticism in Twilight
Eminem's talent and Brian McKnight's voice
(chorus)
French kiss under California's stars
Or a US kiss, the last one before I go back to Paris
(yeah yeah)
US Boy (x8)
(chorus)

Re: The Best Song to Describe People America?
Americans wrote a share of protest songs as well, such songs that describe the current problems even better than the original issues.
For example, "Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel describes the complacency and ignorance of our day even more than in 1960s. Likewise, Bob Dylan's song "The Ballad of Hollis Brown" describes so many destitute lives after 2008 crash. Nowadays, the Western world is full of such Hollis Browns. And what about the song "it's a hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" and "it's Alright Ma, I'm Only Sighing", both by Bob Dylan.
As an end note, I just want to add that I am not anti-American at all. I just find (like many of you), that the current US culture is in a poor sorry state, that people are extremely materialistic, that corporations have too much power at the expense of the middle and working classes, and that too many men are put on meds and in prison too often. But other than that, the United States has many positive sides. Despite all this, I definitely believe that the America is a very good country. I vented out my frustration, but it is just frustration, nothing close to anger.
