I wonder what everyone on the forum thinks about the recent financial turmoil going on? Personally, I think this is the beginning of the end of the American empire. This is like Rome in the final days. Our economy cannot continue on the present course with our trillions of dollars in debt owed to foreign countries, a consumption based economy that is unsustainable in the long run, a dollar collapsing in value, and millions of middle class Americans crushed by debt, gas prices, and foreclosure of homes. And in the fact that millions of Americans are without health-care and our jobs being outsourced to illegals, its no wonder the economy is in shambles.
The recent bailout of all the financial institutions reeks of socialism for the rich. None other than Jim Rogers has stated "America is more communist than China." I would recommend reading books by Jim Rogers, Peter Schiff, Jim Stiglitz and Marc Faber to find out what's really going on in the economy. Don't listen to the shills on CNBC and Fox Business Channel for the real story. The fact is our country is flat out broke!
What I read in a New Dawn website article once was that capitalism tries to grow exponentially rather than linearly. And the economy can not sustain exponential growth for very long, so the system eventually collapses.
But then again, our capitalist system has lasted longer than Karl Marx expected it would, so we must have done something right?

"It takes far less effort to find and move to the society that has what you want than it does to try to reconstruct an existing society to match your standards." - Harry Browne, How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World
Right on the money, zboy!!!
And Winston...regarding capitalism, a Soviet economist in the 1920s named Nikolai Kondratieff proved Karl Marx dead wrong that capitalism would collapse. In fact, Joe Stalin sent him to the gulag for his discovery. You can read about it in this article by scrolling down about 3/4 of the way. I'm going to make a separate thread post of this stuff.
this is one of the best short audio commentaries I've heard in quite a while:
The featured guest is Peter Schiff, whom the talking heads on TV sometimes invited onto their shows during the last several years, just so they could ridicule him in front of their viewers. In this clip, he speaks the truth once again.
Anyone want to join me in my December 11th escape to China? I'm starting to feel like Albert Einstein (and other smart Germans) did in 1932 when they fled....
