Correct, because America is such an ego-centric society, they use their Christianity to elevate themselves above others. If it wasn't Christianity they were using to inflate their egos and behave as if they were better than other, it'd be some other religion. The presence of God is incidental to these types.

Personally, some of the worst people I've met have in fact been atheists. The Christians I've met (particularly American fundie types) can be bigoted and annoying, but they're rarely sociopathic. Then again, there are more atheists in Australia than in America.
