How do you cook microwave popcorn without a microwave?

Post by Winston »

Hi all,
We bought some microwave popcorn bags cause Dianne said she could cook them without a microwave. But our pot was too small and so the bag caught on fire when she tried to do it.

Is there a better way to cook microwave popcorn without a microwave that works well?

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.

I'm not sure if there is any safe way ... but ... perhaps. it should be taken out of the bag? It still may be risky though, because the popcorn itself can cook fast and burn/catch on fire.

Don't feel bad ... I know a guy who caught his boxer shorts on fire in the microwave trying to dry them.

I think that's the best way, to take it out of the bag, all the kernels and the cheese powder, and put them into a pot. Then, as it reaches the popping point, you turn it down to medium and then shake the pot a bit or lift it above the range a bit. That's how my girlfriend keeps it from burning. But I still have trouble with it. lol

Take out the kernels and put them in a pot, along with 2-3 tablespoons of oil. Cover the pot. Keep the flame at about medium, and while holding the pot over the flame (without touching the metal), move it in a circle. It takes about 4 minutes. When the popping starts to really slow down, you're done.

It might take a few tries to get the timing right, but once you get it down its pretty easy.
