What is the native human habitat?

Humans appear to be designed to eat meat, particularly ruminants. Unlike other carnivores, we have an amazing ability to undergo prolonged starvation or subsist on poverty foods - i.e. the crap that most people now eat. We are pretty much a tropical species in that we don't do cold very well without technology, which makes the whole evolution narrative suspect. So what natural environment do we come from, assuming we do come from a natural environment? It seems more like we were selectively bred.
