This is the first time I can recall fast food workers going on strike. Normally, they wouldn't have to strike for a $7/hour job, these workers would just find a higher paying job in another industry, obviously this is not an option. This is just another sign the US economy permanently screwed.

The real danger is that one day automation will likely replace white collar jobs as well. You can already see the beginnings of this with things like legal zoom taking jobs from lawyers and automated printouts of what happens in the stock exchange daily get created by software and forwarded to the AP in .3 seconds of the DOW closing (faster than any human could possibly do). It will only get worse as the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne works on the blue brain project (projected to be completed by 2019).

This is the first time I can recall fast food workers going on strike. Normally, they wouldn't have to strike for a $7/hour job, these workers would just find a higher paying job in another industry, obviously this is not an option.

For many women, having a resume with a couple past jobs is enough to land a $14/hr job.
A lot of these fast food workers are actually unskilled, and many are skilled but have zero business sense - you can make money off of just about anything in the west. The only real cost is time.

The workers are feeling the effects of inflation making their fiat currency worth less and less.

Inflation is destroying the dollar's purchasing power and these workers are feeling it.

The dollar will continue to be worth less and less as time goes on.

Inflation is eating peoples' savings.

Expect many more riots in the near future as fiat currency around the world continue to lose its value and purchasing power due to inflation.
