The East Germany Stasi was far better organized than anything the Americans can or ever will have. Some estimate that they had 1 "informant" per 6.5 people in the population. Americans, on the other hand, is like a group of headless chickens running around the farm in circles. Despite everyone speaking chicken, our chickens can't seem to communicate with each other very well. Inter-agency cooperation and clear chain of command is severely lacking.

Even if that's the case, it's not from lack of trying and that's what's alarming. The U.S. government has surveillance technology light years ahead of what the East Germans had. Every day brings more information on the transformation of the "land of the free." This is just one example of many that are easy to find all over the internet:momopi wrote:The East Germany Stasi was far better organized than anything the Americans can or ever will have. Good points. To the casual observer the various agencies and authorities taken as a whole look like a big bunch of bumbling idiots. But...don't dismiss the future risk so easily. The shot-callers have so much hi-tech firepower/resources at their disposal and have already managed to grab a surprising amount of control over our lives in last 10 years. Even if they continue to be grossly inefficient about it, they can still be effective. And if they manage to get their shit together, watch-out!momopi wrote:The East Germany Stasi was far better organized than anything the Americans can or ever will have.
