How the hell is Honey Boo Boo so popular on TV???

Was channel surfing one night and this show come up on one of the channels. I think it was TLC channel. Anyway, the show supposedly had higher ratings than the Republican National Convention on the same night when it was going on. I have no idea why this trash is so popular? Hey, don't knock HBB, it's one of my favorite guilty pleasures!

Ok, in my defense, I love anything campy, trashy or so-bad-it's-good. To me disliking and hating stuff is a form of entertainment.

But of course, when campy and trashy becomes so mainstream that the man/woman in the street will actually prefer it over something more substantial... well, I guess that's its own commentary.
