Guy kicks Winston's car door and makes a dent. Wtf?

Post by Winston »

Last week when I drove to UNLV (University of Las Vegas) to pick up a girl from Couchsurfing, a guy standing on the road was in my way. So I honked at him. He got mad, and when I honked again, he kicked the car door and made a dent in it. I went to the university police but he was already gone. What a stupid piece of shit. I don't know what he expected me to do, run him over? He had no right to be mad. Did he prefer that I just run him over? Maybe this is a sign to get out of Vegas. East Vegas is a bad area anyway.

What would you have done? What right did he have to be mad? He was the one blocking traffic.

And why was he standing on the edge of the road rather than the sidewalk? Wtf?

I fixed most of the dent already with a toilet plunger. The rest of it I am slowly getting out with a dent repair tool I bought from the auto store. The tool uses a disc and glue that you stick and pop out. I did it many times last night. It has removed most of the dent but there is still a little left. It's barely noticeable now.

My guess is he's just another sexually frustrated, under employed, American male that's tired of being marginalized, you just happened to be in his way. When not given equal rights and opportunities American men can be very dangerous, at least that's what I've heard. Nothing a vacation in Cebu can't fix. Hopefully your car is a rental.

Vegas is poison Winston...I was there for many years. People live at an extremely high pace and tensions are high 24/7. It's not a place to "live", it's a place to make $$ (or go to college) and get out ASAP. There is violent crime all over that particular area as well, probably due to extra crime in the area and higher tensions of young people that can't handle the pressures of Las Vegas. However, North Las Vegas is the absolute worst...murders happening all the time. I personally knew 2 guys that killed girlfriends during the years that I lived in Vegas as well...one of those guys I worked with regularly...crazy. He stabbed his girlfriend and then stabbed their little boy in the chest as well. The girlfriend died, but the little boy lived.

What did you do? Lightly "tap" the horn or "stand" on the horn for a prolonged five minutes or so? LOL.

Would sticking your head out the window and in a friendly manner ask him to "please step aside so you may pass" resulted in a different outcome?

You're lucky to have gotten a dented door. It could have been a bullet through the windshield.

It'd be a shame if the next time he was standing off the curb, you happened by and he wound up accidentally "denting" the door with his @$$.

I was on the way to pick up a girl and was focused on getting to her and spending time with her. In Chiayi I was bored and was in no rush. Please Taiwanese are much easier to scare off. So are you. All it takes is one act of aggressive or shouting and most Taiwanese, including yourself, get scared and back down. lol. I have gotten out of my car in Chiayi and flipped people off. They usually drive away. In Taiwan, I have a more dominating presence than in the US. Different place. Plus Vegas is a lot more dangerous and violent than Taiwan.

Yeah no kidding. Did the murderers get arrested? Do the police even care?

This happened in East Vegas though. I would have thought that a university would be in a nicer area. Plus if I wasn't trying to help out a Couchsurfer, none of this would have happened. As they say, "No good deed goes unpunished."

The guy that kicked my car looked like a yuppie though, not a bum. He may have been a student. He was dressed in yuppie clothes and striped shirt. But his face looked angry and mean though.

I am in SW Vegas though and see nothing like that here though.

I also hate the "pedestrians have the right of way" rule because it makes people think they can walk across the road and not care about the traffic, as if they own the road. This is dangerous though because sometimes pedestrians are hard to see and you could come close to hitting them.

I also hate driving in cities because when you are trying to make a right turn and focusing on the traffic coming from the left side, and you finally have an opportunity to make the right turn, all of a sudden a pedestrian walks across as if you aren't there. I HATE THAT! IT'S f***ing ANNOYING! What if I'm eager to make the right turn after waiting for the cars to pass, but I don't see the pedestrian and hit them? It's f***ing annoying to be about to make a right turn and then suddenly a pedestrian rudely cuts you off and blocks your turn. I f***ing HATE THAT! But it ALWAYS f***ing happens in US cities like Las Vegas. That's another reason I hate driving in cities or crowded areas.

The US should cancel the "pedestrian has the right of way" rule and do the "cars have the right of way" like it is in most countries. The stupid rule makes driving dangerous because there are too many arrogant pedestrians who walk across as if they own the road without consideration for vehicles.

Lightly tapping the horn may shorten the sound but it does not decrease the volume of it. It doesn't matter. Honking at someone blocking the road is a normal thing.

After I honked at him, he did get out of the way. But he flipped me off and yelled at me. That's when I honked at him again to tell him off. After that, he kicked the door. And I honked at him a third time. Then drove off. If I had not honked at him the second time after he flipped me off, and just drove off instead, he wouldn't have been able to kick my car door.

Dude, are you living in reality? If you stand on the road and block oncoming traffic, no one is going to stop and roll down the window and say "please step aside so you may pass" when they could just honk. NO ONE would do that. Get real. Go out and block the road and see if anyone stops and says to you "please step aside so you may pass". Have you ever been outside before? Dang you are so unrealistic.

When my parents were here, we were on the way to Costco. Then suddenly my dad stopped the car on the road with a red light ahead to let a pedestrian on the other side cross the street. The thing is, he was far away so there was no need to do this. My dad was being overly nice again, which pisses me off for some reason. This time it backfired, so I was right. But it boiled my blood and made me yell at him which put me in a bad mood for a few hours afterward. This happens a lot when I go out with my parents.

Anyway, it backfired because the guy he was stopping for was not walking directly across in front of us. He was walking in a fricking DIAGONAL direction TOWARD US which led him straight to our car. In other words, our car was BLOCKING his path instead of letting him walk across. So the guy, rather than appreciate my dad's nice gesture, walked up to his window and said "GO! GO! YOU DUMBASS!" Then he walked behind our car. I was about to roll down the window and yell out "f**k you shithead! Why don't you learn to use the crosswalk?!" But I was too pissed at my dad and lost my temper at him for doing the unnecessary stop and I even agreed with the rude pedestrian that my dad's stop was unnecessary.

It turned out that I was right. My dad's early stop to let that dickhead pass by was a mistake. He didn't appreciate it but called my dad a "dumbass" instead, which I agreed with, but I was pissed at the pedestrian too for doing that. I don't know why he was walking diagonal rather than straight across. It was f***ing stupid.

But the point is that my dad's nice act was 100 percent UNNECESSARY. He should have just driven by to the red light and then the guy would have walked across behind us and the whole incident would have been avoided and would have NEVER HAPPENED. So why doesn't my dad do that? That's what pisses me off, his way of causing unnecessary trouble like that. It's pissed me off thousands of times and throws me into a temper tantrum. So illogical. Yet it keeps happening! WHY?! WHY?! WHY?! COME ON!!!!!!!!!! I hate always losing my temper whenever he makes unnecessary mistakes like that!!!!!!!! And I'm tired of always yelling "COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!" every time he makes a mistake!

I don't know why. But little mistakes by my dad like that always make me blow my fuse. This is just one of hundreds of incidents. Often, his actions are completely the OPPOSITE of logical. I don't know why. We've had hundreds of incidents like this where he does something totally stupid and I blow my fuse and yell at him and lecture him and he gets angry back at me and tells me that I have a horrible temper, making that the issue rather than his mistake.

Another common thing he does that makes me blow my fuse is when he drives into a parking lot and circles around in it while missing empty parking spaces and acting like he doesn't see them. When he finally does see a parking space, he picks one farther away and harder to park into. It's totally 100 percent illogical yet he does it every time! Wtf! COME ON!!!!!!!

Then I get pissed, but rather than admitting to his mistakes, he tells me that no one can stand me and that women break up with me because of my bad temper. Yet the truth is, no woman has ever broken up with me because of my bad temper. So his claim is false, yet he always makes the same claim, taking the focus off his mistake and making my temper the issue instead.

It's weird how someone like my dad, who is wise and educated, could make such illogical mistakes for years over and over again. It pisses me off and makes me so angry!!!!!!!

It's not even clear if he really sees that the empty parking spaces that he drives by or not. He won't be clear on that. His way of selecting a parking space is inefficient and wastes time, and boils my blood. I don't know why. I don't usually lose my temper easily, but around certain people I do, such as my dad.

But you can ask all my close friends and they will tell you that I have one of the most easygoing tempers. It just flares up around my dad for some reason, because a lot of his ways contradict the most basic logic. And he does not like to admit to his mistakes.

He also misjudges and miscalculates a lot when it comes to the distance of oncoming cars. For some reason, he doesn't do that when I'm not there. But when I'm there, his errors seem to increase. It's like we are oil and water or something.

When we argue, I always tell him that he can ask my forum members if driving around a parking lot and trying to find the hardest to park in spaces is a logical thing or not. But I always cool down by the time I get in front of the computer.

I have a good temper usually, but when someone keeps doing the exact OPPOSITE of what's logical when it comes to simple things, I tend to lose my cool for some reason. I guess it's a huge pet peeve.

I fixed most of the dent already with a toilet plunger. The rest of it I am slowly getting out with a dent repair tool I bought from the auto store. I tend to be more fearful when I think the fight will not have limits and degenerate into something with weapons. With middle class normal sized guys, I feel more comfortable cus even if u lose, they will stop plus it's more likely they will fight fair one-on-one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUHVQvFnrMs

If I think the guy has a killer instinct and is crazy enough (use any weapons available in his vicinity) to go for serious injury or death, I'd rather hedge my bets.

I've seen a few ugly fights in Taiwan. If u push the wrong guy in the shoulder, u could quickly be attacked by a whole group and when u r down, they keep kicking and kicking. When u yell at someone in a car, it's hard to get an accurate read on them until they step out.

Winston, rather than get angry at your dad, I would've cussed out the stupid pedestrian instead. Face it, Winston, Americans are sh*t-heads most of the time, and any little thing will trip them up. It's even worse with New Yorkers, lol. Americans are rude, obnoxious a-holes and if someone had done that to my dad, I would've cussed right back at that person.

In retrospect yeah I should have. But my mind doesn't adjust to reality fast enough. At the time, my mind was in the "should have" mode in that my dad should have driven to the stop light and ignored the guy. When my mind is in the "should" mode I can't react properly. My mind is too perfectionistic in that way. I didn't accept my dad's mistake in being too nice to others, so my mind didn't accept it. In my mind, we were supposed to pull up to the stoplight. So I did not want to acknowledge the event. It's hard to explain. Maybe it's part of my OCD or control freakish tendency.

I was also mad at my dad for doing something unnecessary that in my mind shouldn't have happened, and was yelling at him at the time. But I've done this thousands of times with him. His actions rub me the wrong way, and mine sometimes rub him the wrong way. Me and my dad are like oil and water for some reason.

You see, around some people, I never lose my temper. For example, around Rock, he and I get along well. We do not rub each other the wrong way nor is there friction between our personality. There are no temper tantrums between us. Our personalities jive in a smooth flow without any personality conflicts. But my dad's actions and mine rub each other the wrong way. We seem to have a core personality conflict that makes us mad at each other when we are out in public for some reason. We don't get into arguments at home, but out in public we do for some reason.

My dad sees me as a guy with a bad temper. He has trouble believing that I'm not like that with others, such as Rock. So he sees a different Winston than you guys do. That's because his personality makes me lose my temper a lot for some reason. Some people just get on each other's nerves for some reason. Some personality types are like oil and water I guess.

You can ask Rock. He's never seen me lose my temper, except maybe late one night when I was trying to sleep and he and my friend were still talking at 4am. Yet around my dad, I lose my temper all the time. Why?

I've had friends that move at a different pace too, including one of my exes. Like when she wants to rush, I want to slow down, but when I want to rush, she wants to slow down. It's really weird.

Anyhow, I don't usually go out in Vegas unless necessary, in order to avoid incidents like this which become emotionally draining. Less people = less conflict = more peace. Incidents happen when people are around. So more people = less peace. And as an introvert, I'm highly sensitive and get drained easily and need more peace than others. So a lot of bad people has a negative effect on me. Better to avoid them so nothing goes wrong. That's the dilemma. In order to have real peace, you can't have too many people around, but if you are alone too much, you get lonely. It's a dilemma and a catch-22.

Btw, the incidents I described in this thread have never happened to me before. I grew up in the upper middle class suburbs of the Bay Area and no one there kicks cars like that. People in Washington state do not do this kind of thing either. So I'm not used to it and it does not apply to most of the US. Maybe it happens more often in Vegas or NYC, but not in most areas of America. In most of America, it is very isolating and people mind their own business.

Yes, the murderers went to jail of course...LIFE in prison. However, these big sentences doesn't stop people from killing each other. Vegas has some very rich, connected people and many are "criminal". If you piss off the wrong person, you could be in real trouble. Pedestrians aren't likely to do much more than kick your car wanting you to get out and fight. If you do step out, they will likely be ready to fight and may injure you in a way that you won't recover from. However, someone in a vehicle could have a gun, purposely run you off the road, follow you to see where you live and worse. It's best to curb the road rage in Vegas. WHEN someone f***s with you on the road (it WILL happen), just avoid any more conflict. If you flip someone off, they could become your worst nightmare if they are the wrong person...
