Well, here’s the kicker: Germany didn’t just abolish tuition for Germans. The tuition ban goes for international students, too.

Well, the article clearly says, there is a big difference between the system in Germany and USA.
Up to now there were some small fees to pay, but not anymore - on the other side expect very crowded rooms and you have to be fluent in German.
German will be useful if you consider to continue to live in Central Europe, it is the native language of over 100 million people - but if not there is hardly any place in this world where you can use your knowledge using this language.
For sure the German way to study in university is not suitable to many foreigners.

Its not that easy. I have truck loads of information on studying in Germany for free.
I'm planning to go to Germany and thought by University is the easiest.
Here you can choose the university and course you wanna do.
http://www.mastersportal.eu/
It has free as well as paid courses. Germany Admits students in two semesters around October and March.
Once you select the course, You have to personally apply to that University. Now..here is the problem.
Each university only admits 30 to 40 seats for outsiders and that too based on Merit, Nationality, age, work experience, gender, language etc
50% goes to women...You have say 15 seats left and out of that students with straight A from all over the world get the first selection, then language proficiency in German, Age, Work Experience, Country....from each country only 1-2 are selected. to appear international.
Even Finland, Norway has free university degrees now. Google it...
If you are from EU or other developed countries, it would be far easier for you. I'm from India, so its basically Hell as our quota gets filled pretty fast. I have selected over 160 places I could fit in Germany but could actually apply for only 3 which were in interior places, small towns in Germany. You won't find free seat in say Berlin and Frankfurt but in small village universities.
Plus you have to lock in around 700 EUR in Duetche Bank * 12 = 8400 EUR locked into bank for your 1 year stay, which can only be withdrawn 700 EUR per month not more than that. You still have to take care of your living expenses plus live in a dorm.
-----------------
I have looked into every which way they call it FREE and as in life FREE is usually SHIT...Germany are it seems is good at hiding the details cleverly and this is coming from a guy from third world country...who was born in a shit pretty much. I was really disappointed by German Universities way of saying FREE
The course is all BS anyways and won't help you get a job. All of over 300 free courses are garbage for today's world. Its useless that's why its FREE
