Doesn't believe in it -- thinks it will take a toll eventually on motivation. As, he believes, will the inevitable injuries that come with lifting heavy weights for a long period. He thinks the Crossfit movement, which is kind of the ultimate in quick-gains anaerobic movements around right now, is absolutely insane, and sooner than later will "bust you up."
Aging bodies especially require steady attention to motivation. It's all about what routines allow you to show up and do something consistently, rather than setting world records or chasing personal bests. At some point it's not about competition anymore.
