To get around Philippine Marriage Laws: Take Up Islam

Post by pandabear »

That would appear to be what former Vice President Noli de Castro did:
...The bigamy and other criminal charges filed against Vice President Noli de Castro and his wife, Arlene Sinsuat de Castro, were dismissed on Tuesday for lack of probable cause...

...They also claimed that De Castro perjured himself when he stated in his narration of facts in the certificate that his religion as Islam, when in fact he is a Catholic and even a devotee of the Black Nazarene of Quiapo.
Filipino Muslims can have multiple wives.

And, Freddie Aguilar, an old Filipino pop star in his 60s, married a 17-year old

MANILA, Philippines – Freddie Aguilar’s wife celebrated her 18th birthday on Sunday, November 30. According to a report from ABS-CBN, Jovie Albao celebrated her birthday at Freddie’s music bar in Quezon City.

Jovie was 17 when she married Freddie, 61 in Muslim rites in November 2013 in Maguindanao...

...The relationship between Jovie and Freddie became controversial when Freddie admitted he was going out with Jovie, who was then 16 years old.
Christians in the Philippines cannot marry if they are less than 18. But, Muslims can marry younger.
...under Islamic practices, a couple can marry as soon as the woman has her first menstruation.

Presidential Decree No. 1083, which recognizes the system of Filipino Muslim laws, provides that "any Muslim male at least 15 years of age and any Muslim female of the age of puberty or upwards and not suffering from any impediment under the provisions of this Code may contract marriage."
Strange they pixellate out his wife's face in the video--probably to "protect a minor":

That would make for a very odd wedding album.

Quite a few states within the USA allow marriage if the girl is 15. Someone who converts to Islam just so they can poke 16 year olds is not clever...they are just an idiot.
