The Scammers

Post by ladislav »

In the PH, you have a certain %% of scammers in society.

The way I understand it, some of these people could not get formal education, but they do possess certain natural intelligence.
They could not develop it into a profession, so they applied it in creating very effective scams.

But some are educated and still, they try to scam you.

The most typical strategy simply involves borrowing money and not paying back. That is the mother of all scams in the PH.
A person like that makes friends with you and gets into your confidence. They are very patient and can wait months or even years until they hit you for a loan. Then, they simply do not return the money. Very simple and effective. And it does not violate the 10 Commandments. Being a deadbeat is not stealing.

The next is pity-evoking or emergency scams. They allegedly need money to pay for school, pay for work clearances, buy uniforms, etc. If the person has kids, these kids are now in hospitals, or she would send you a picture of them with some swelling, a big lump in the cheek- allegedly from a sick tooth- and ask for your help.

Some send you a receipt from a hospital of a bill to pay.

Sometimes, they fake a street emergency, that there is a shoot out nearby, and she needs evacuation money to move to a new place or she or her kids will be shot. First, last month plus deposit.

Some are so brazen as faking parents' or even own death, and you are asked to pay for the funeral.

Such scammers often make an entire living swindling others. When they get caught and told that it does not check out, they are also skilled at making excuses. Oh, but the hospital does not have receipts, you spoke with the wrong doctor, the person you asked knows nothing. Eventually, they want you to give them the benefit of the doubt so that they can, after some time, resume scamming you.

Or, they move to a new place, find new victims and repeat the whole thing. To many, it's an art, a profession that they practice which allows them to create a steady stream of income.

Those "poreners" who got taken to the cleaners by such terrible people - because the former had the heart to help the poor, usually get no pity from the locals or other "poreners ". They are are instead mocked, called stupid and told that they deserve to be swindled like this.
If the swindler scams other Filipinos, then, of course, the victim gets great compassion and, the scammer receives full wrath from everybody.
A brain is a terrible thing to wash!
