UK loneliest country in Europe

Post by Feldeinsamkeit »

Today I found an article on the internet which seems to add statistical evidence to my belief that the social environment in the UK is very similar to that of the US not just in terms of dating, but also in the sense that although people are usually superficially pleasant towards one another, it is hard to form meaningful contacts with others by way of friendships given how self-centred and narcissistic most people have become over the last couple of decades; a phenomenon which foreigners often speak about in connection with living here. Here it is:

Yep..I saw that when it came out. No one helps anyone else in crisis any more...there is no feeling of neighbourhood any more. People are too selfish and self centred.

Men who DO help other people are actually attacked and slandered for doing so in an effort to discourage them. I am a good example of that. I have done more to help men across the world than anyone else I know. I gave men the path to freedom in the form of a simple to follow 100 page book. For this I have been widely hated on by people who never even bothered to read the book!!

I have given up trying to "help men".....we just started dead broke dads. The basic rule is if a man wants "help" then he must do as he is asked with grace and appreciation. Apart from that? I am now leaving men to their fate. FIVE YEARS of men lying about me and slandering me for putting my life at risk for their benefit is enough evidence for me that men do not wish to be helped in any significant number. They WANT to be criminally abused because they will not lift a finger against such.

Mens Rights Fiji actually have men who WANT to be helped....and so that is where I am doing the most of my work...in Fiji.

For dads who are dead broke and WANT TO WORK to get themselves out of the hole they are in? This is our new site.

Please be aware I have asked Winston if he would like to buy into franchises for both Wealthy Affiliates and iPAS2. So if he says yes I do not want any HAers signing up via me. Ok? If Winston buys into these then HAers should sign up through Winston.

It sounds like the UK is a carbon copy of the United States. Not only is it difficult to meet women, it's difficult to make friends as well.

I have heard guys from Canada, Australia and New Zealand say the same thing. Welcome to the English speaking world, where people are anti social, the women are snobs and the laws all favor women over men.
"When I think about the idea of getting involved with an American woman, I don't know if I should laugh .............. or vomit!"

"Trying to meet women in America is like trying to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics."

Believe me (I'm English and currently living here), the UK IS a carbon copy of the US. I've compared the slutty and narcissistic gestures/facial expressions of US women in the various media and English women are exactly like this - with their scowling countenace, solipsistic mindset, snobby princess complexes and utter superficiality for the most part, with no regard for anything other than themselves and celebrity status/money, to say nothing of their indifference towards ideas and general lack of empathy for the suffering of those less fortunate than themselves. It is interesting to note that I've met more than a handful of women from central/eastern Europe who have commented on how polite English men are in comparison to the arrogance of English women and how these foreign women simply find it impossible to connect with them. And their arrogance and sense of entitlement has to be seen to be believed, I must add.

As for making friends, well, the English are superficially - emphasis on "superficially" - friendly, but this "friendliness" simply serves as a veneer against which to keep one's fellow citizen at a safe distance rather than a means of inviting a proper connection based on genuine friendship. For example, in the UK, when asked, "How are you?", you're expected to simply say, "I'm fine, thanks" and to never to tell the truth if you're not feeling on top of the world, especially since you know that nobody is really interested in hearing about your troubles. Furthermore, there is a mentality here which says that everyman has to fend for himself and that he should not attempt to enlist the help or support of those around him, perhaps with the exception of his family. Here's an article from the Guardian by a well-known British environmentalist who addresses the same issues about life in the UK. It's well worth a read:

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre ... killing-us

I've lost track of the number of times I've had foreign people I've met in the UK tell me how difficult they find it to make friends in the UK. Many of them simply give up but do end up making friends - with fellow foreigners!

It is true: for the most part it is harder for a foreigner to make (lasting) friends with local Brits in the UK. What saves the day though is the fact that several mid-sized and large cities have a vibran international community. Not mentioning the obvious London, but Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and university towns such as Cambridge and Oxford, York, Cardiff etc.

I agree with you, though, on the fact that once one is outside the student communities and social circles, finding a group of friends, or even a small number of people to have meaningful interactions with, gets exponentially harder with age. Social relationships become increasingly business-oriented and functional (to favours asked or exchanged) and, as such, any time spent focussing on emotions, intimate personal issues and philosophical discussions is considered unproductive, a waste of everybody's energies.

Truth be told, though, the above applies to most if not all first-world countries, not just the UK. Some might argue that distance isn't necessarily a bad thing. Yes, people in "warmer" communities like Latin America, the Philippines or Thailand, or southern European countries (Italy, Spain and Portugal, Greece etc.) will pay more attention, will like to engage in casual conversations and genuinely care about you, whether you are an established member of their community or a newcomer. The price to pay for that form of easy (or easier) inclusion is that your hosts will, at some point, judge you and expect you to conform with their worldview and their habits, at least in part.

S_Parc wrote a few posts a while ago, on how his inlaws in Brazil became nosy and judgmental towards him because his small and dysfunctional family was perceived a long shot away from those gregarious, large, clan-like family they are used to over there. My wife's family in Colombia (Medellin) is also a mixed bag of joy and frustrations, with many members willing to go bounds and leaps to make us feel at home and included, as well as few "rotten apples" who want nothing to do with us and have been known for dismissing my wife as a social climber who married a Westerner to get out of her Colombian misery.

Out of my personal experience, I say it's really hard to find a balance that works. Loneliness and lack of genuine human connection is a plague of advanced societies just as much as nosiness, stickiness, hidden agendas and close-mindedness is a prerogative of the more traditional and gregarious ones.

Likewise, I've heard many people mention how cold the locals can be here. What's more I've also had women from Poland and Spain commenting on the politeness of the men in comparison to the women. It's true, it does seem that the women here are noticeably more rude than the men.
Furthermore, there is a mentality here which says that everyman has to fend for himself and that he should not attempt to enlist the help or support of those around him, perhaps with the exception of his family.
In some circles, even from the familiy is looked down upon. I think you'll find there's a pretty high correlation between this point and rates of depression.

What can we do; Get people to rethink their ways? Encourage people not to feel so ashamed about reaching out for help if they're in difficulty? Encourage and teach people to be more empathetic to the suffering of others around them? This is one thing that I think is a major drawback of western young people; acting all american, not giving a shit about the suffering of others, acting as if they haven't got any empathitic capacity.

Maybe we should launch a campain against selfishness and individualism :D

I read an article some time back and a women was talking about the socialist communist order the credit monopoly set up in her country when they came in and seized control of everything and the end result was a cold society with no spark. The US has had this done over time by stealth and the UK even more so.

People are to dumb to figure out how this has happened by not being able to coin their own currency but from the peoples view who are running the con that is why they are doing it and get away with what they do. I mean how can we go forward collectively as a species when most are to dumb to figure how they are played.
