The rise of Black American culture

Post by BlackKnight »

The black man not being privileged with conventional gratification, has "discovered and elaborated the morality of the bottom -- which has produced some of the greatest, most adventurous pop art of the past quarter-century. Black americans grow up in society under the threat of "instant death from racial hatred or with a slow death by conformity with every creative and rebellious instinct stifled. This realization has led blacks to accept that: the only life-giving answer is to accept the terms of death, to live with death as immediate danger, to divorce oneself from society, to exist without roots, to set out on that uncharted journey into the rebellious imperatives of the self.

In his essay: White Negro: Superficial Reflections on the Hipster, first published in the Summer 1957 issue of Dissent. The author, Norman Mailer spoke of the coming black rise: The Negro is more familiar with the dark side of life that the white, which could give him a "potential superiority". This superiority is "so feared that the fear itself has become the underground drama of domestic politics"; it is the traditionally conservative fear of "unforeseeable consequences."

Mailer then suggests that:

"With this possible emergence of the Negro, Hip may erupt as a physically armed rebellion whose sexual impetus may rebound against the antisexual foundation of every organized power in America, and bring into the air such animosities, antipathies, and new conflicts of interest that the mean empty hypocrisies of mass conformity will no longer work"

Of course YOU now see what he was talking about some 70 years later. White hipsters have "absorbed the existentialist synapses of blacks, and for practical purposes could be considered a white Negro. Smoking marijuana was the "wedding ring" of this relationship and language was "the child." The "language of Hip … gave expression to abstract states of feeling which all could share, at least all those who were Hip. Their language (adopted in large part from the Black-American vernacular) is a language with much energy; without this energy the same message would not be delivered. Their vocabulary is semantically so flexible that a single word, such as "dig," can mean hundreds of things depending upon everything from context to tone and rhythm. The Negro, unable to "saunter down a street with any real certainty that violence will not visit him, has "kept for his survival the art of the primitive … relinquishing the pleasures of the mind for the more obligatory pleasures of the body. So, the hipster, the white Negro, uses the "black man’s code" to live their life.

Hip morality is to do what one feels whenever and wherever it is possible, and – this is how the war of the Hip and the Square begins- to be engaged in one primal battle: to open the limits of the possible for oneself, for oneself alone, because that is one's need. Yet in widening the arena of the possible, one widens it reciprocally for others as well, so that the nihilistic fulfillment of each man’s desire contains its antithesis of human co-operation."

Mailer goes on to state that "Hip ethic is immoderation, childlike in its adoration of the present," and that it "proposes as its final tendency that every social restraint and category be removed. In the last section of Mailer's essay, he suggest the Negro may hold knowledge based on his own position in life and his experiences and a more comprehensive way of thinking may be worthy, even though it may be frightening to squares.

I really wonder if you write your comments in the right forum. This forum is about travel abroad and to meet people of any race worldwide, it is about international and interracial dating.

About American black culture, less than 15 percent of the US-population is black - it's simple, the majority of all people living in USA is white.

You have to live with that, and if you cannot the follow-up best step is to leave USA and settle down somewhere which population has a black majority, right?

However and this is the problem - Only very few countries with a black majority are economically successful. Zimbabwe is a good example how to ruin a successful country, formerly managed by whites. Haiti is also not known to be rich, and many African countries are nothing but a mess often remarkably impoverished or even living in a war-zone.

Life is still considerably better in USA for black people than anywhere else.

While I understand the impulse to talk about any positive aspect of Black America, real or imagined, Black America is the only population that finds itself languishing under a dictatorship of the proletariat and feminism.

Black America is the only population, worldwide, that takes great pride in being represented by the least able, least accomplished, and least respect-worthy among us.

Black America is the only population that has, wholesale, dysfunctional women that make for dysfunctional mothers that make for dysfunctional children that grow up to be dysfunctional adults. See the Moynihan Report's description of the tangle of pathologies associated with Black American women.

While it pains me to say this, most Black Americans are unintelligent, poorly educated, and emotional thinkers unable to think logically and thoroughly on even basic subjects. Again, I attribute this to horrible mothers who subject their children to fatherless circumstances and brutal forms of emotional and physical abuse.

Most of you know that I am Black American myself, but if most blacks shared my IQ of 130, shared my income status among the top 10% in the country, and shared my wealth which is also in the top 10%, we would not have the lowly predicament we are in today. These things are virtually unattainable for most blacks due to circumstances of again poor mothering and abuse.

Quite frankly, I cannot and do not relate to most Black Americans any longer, but having said that, I do meet the diamond in the rough even now and then. But blacks, again, due to the backward ethic of "Keeping in real," are disinclined to do what it takes to get ahead in the mainstream, legitimate way.

It took me 20 years of international living and travel to come to the conclusion that Black Americans are, with few exceptions, an idiocracy realized. And there is virtually no going back from that lamentable condition.

America should have collapsed long ago, without all the social welfare provided by financial manipulation made possible by counterfeiting and the petro $ this would have been the case long ago. I want to live in a society where the occupants can take care of themselves.

If you want to know where the Blacks really are read " A Negro in a Soviet America " written by James W Ford.

The only aspect of black culture that is rising and transcending is the hip hop culture. Look towards asia and listen to the pop music and the heavy influence of hip hop.

However, the down side of this is glorfication of the wannabe gangster or that of the wannabe hood. In some ways black culture also creates permissiveness in the culture which does contribute to the rise of free sexulality.

I look at korean pop which has heavy hip hop influence. You see these korean guys wannabe gangster and the sexuality of korean women grinding thier hips in the music videos.

Yeap thats black influence in korean culture .
But thats it.

Uh, the article is not entirely positive regarding black culture and hipness, in fact it is mostly negative.
If the ethic reduces to Know Thyself and Be Thyself, what makes
it radically different from Socratic moderation with its stern conservative
respect for the experience of the past, is that the Hip ethic is immoderation,
child-like in its adoration of the present (and indeed to
respect the past means that one must also respect such ugly consequences
of the past as the collective murders of the State) . It is this
adoration of the present which contains the affirmation of Hip, because
its ultimate logic surpasses even the unforgettable solution of
the Marquis de Sade to sex, private property, and the family, that all men
and women have absolute but temporary rights over the bodies of all
other men and women—the nihilism of Hip proposes as its final tendency
that every social restraint and category be removed, and the
affirmation implicit in the proposal is that man would then prove to
be more creative than murderous and so would not destroy himself.
Which is exactly what separates Hip from the authoritarian philosophies
which now appeal to the conservative and liberal temper—what haunts
the middle of the Twentieth Century is that faith in man has been
lost, and the appeal of authority has been that it would restrain us
from ourselves. Hip, which would return us to ourselves, at no matter
what price in individual violence, is the affirmation of the barbarian
for it requires a primitive passion about human nature to believe that
individual acts of violence are always to be preferred to the collective
violence of the State; it takes literal faith in the creative possibilities
of the human being to envisage acts of violence as the catharsis which
prepares growth.
It is obviously not very possible to speculate with sharp focus on
the future of the hipster. Certain possibilities must be evident, however,
and the most central is that the organic growth of Hip depends
on whether the Negro emerges as a dominating force in American life.
Since the Negro knows more about the ugliness and danger of life than
the White, it is probable that if the Negro can win his equality, he
will possess a potential superiority, a superiority so feared that the fear
itself has become the underground drama of domestic politics. Like
all conservative political fear it is the fear of unforeseeable consequences,
for the Negro's equality would tear a profound shift into the psychology,
the sexuality, and the moral imagination of every White alive.
In this sense it is equally a psychic necessity for the liberal to
believe that the Negro and even the reactionary Southern White are
eventually and fundamentally people like himself, capable of becoming
good liberals too if only they can be reached by good liberal reason.
What the liberal cannot bear to admit is the hatred beneath the skin
of a society so unjust that the amount of collective violence buried in
the people is perhaps incapable of being contained, and therefore if
one wants a better world one does well to hold one's breath, for a
worse world is bound to come first, and the dilemma may well be this:
given such hatred, it must either vent itself nihilistically or become
turned into the cold murderous liquidations of the totalitarian state.

Not when you reconcile Black American culture with eternal recurrence. Then it because the perfect way to live

Honestly, I can see a lot of positives to some of the drives- it's the manner that's an issue. More instance, if someone were to point out that using bigger words doesn't make the statement any more accurate, just like how someone wearing a cross while they do something foul doesn't make their actions of a better quality- that CONCEPT would be fine.

The problem comes when you call it "thinking by analogy" or "thinking by analagous circumstances." If you were to say any of those or the example I made right at the beginning of this post, it's like a "bad word" or getting a point marked-off or something. This, to me, is like shooting to miss what you're aiming at as a sign of masculinity or something. I don't get that. That's like being so strong that you can't lift something. That mentality that it's not "real" to say something for what it is or to try doing something in a way that works is sabotage as a philosophy. Somebody would rather stand there with their chest out to show that they're not scared of getting shot than to shoot back accurately.
