I disagree with you on the male shaming part. I was excited about this movie last year when I saw a teaser. Then as time passed I realized that this shit is "yet another" hit job on men going abroad for decent wives. Thousands of men are doing this now! Not just OLD a** CREEPY WHITE MEN! This director is not doing anything but showing the ugliest side of reality.

Why couldn't she find some white/black/asian dudes in their 20's like me or 30's doing this, instead of showing a loser old white guy with "yellow fever"? Because that is too easy and not entertaining at all. People wanna see mess and drama. This film is just another extremism view in a politically polarized country.

Is it a hit job though? Step back from it... The person doing the filming claimed dude had Yellow Fever. But she changed her mind when he got off his duff and picked up his soon-to-be wife.

In any event, here's the deal homie. Did you really want a early 30's, unattractive, rural girl from China? The men in her own country don't want her; Of course that's not true. She was looking to move up market and how many times have we said the world over that's what women DO? No men from middle and upper middle class families wanted a so-so looking rural girl. They'll take a fine looking rural girl in her 20's, not her 30's.

This is why I keep saying China will have a series of social issues with its male population. The good looking, white skinned Chinese girls are marrying rich Chinese, South Koreans, Japanese, White men from Western Countries and the occasional Man of Color.

Finally, most people want to remain private. Others don't mind getting 15 mins and Black folk (except for rachet BW) don't want to be seen on TV really. Imagine the grilling he would get from BW he doesn't even know by appearing on National TV marrying something other than a African-American woman... I'd be a complete lightning rod for such fake and real outrage. I keep it simple and make it plain, they don't like that.

Women in China are called "Shengnu" when they are past 27 years of age. Shengnu means "leftover woman" a Chinese version of an "Old Maid" in western cultures. So when you said a Chinese man would want her, you are wrong in most cases. They actually DONT! There are tooooooo many pretty young 20 year old girls they can legally marry (marriage age is 20 for women, 22 for men in China) Also Chinese believe as a custom that a man should be of a good bit older than his wife (like 5-15ish), hence those legal age limits.

You call her an ugly rural girl, but she is very hittable I think, I admit biased, I love girls with short hair like that, and being from a Lousiana family, I don't mind country gals. Shit I hunt and fish too myself. I digress, she is still good looking, its just that she cannot compete over there for local men however, she does have a distinct Comparative Advantage (if I can borrow this economics term) over American women. That girl isn't remotely attractive, but to each his own. He's 60 though, its likely the best he could get. For those of you under 40-50 you can do better.

I disagree with you on a few things. She did not go up market at all because she is a complete leftover in China. For one she is too dark, she worked out in the fields, her hair is too short for a mainstream man, and she is 30. She had stronger earning potential than that jackass she married, while living in China! She bought her parents their own house! Most Chinese women just want a decent husband first, money and shit comes second. At the beginning she saw him for the trash he was, and made demands that he fix it or else. Most Chinese Tiger Wives become Tigers for a good reason. That guy had zero discipline and was still talking to his ex.

When I was in NY last, my taxi driver was Chinese too, and we talked for a while, and he couldn't stand his "Tiger Wife" because they fought all the time.
