How Is Southampton, England?

Hello, all. I finally have passage booked for Europe (leaving early this December) & it drops me off in Southampton. I'm figuring I'll take the Chunnel after that, but I don't know what all my options are.

I was wondering how that place is (also wondering about English knife laws, as I have a few that might be an issue- although I AM just passing through England to get to Czechia or Slovakia). So, what's the rundown on that place? Is it "migrant" infested? Is it a cool place?

Spent a month there in 2012. Rained every single day -- probably a total of 6-7 hours of sun the whole time I was there. I kind of liked the place. Doesn't appear to be migrant-infested, but at that time there were a lot of Poles, which isn't a negative. The night clubs are kind of clustered together, but the female clientele struck me as mostly young club tarts of no interest to me. Lots of people without 9-5 jobs, and they all come down to the mall area from 10 to 3 every day, just hanging out. I was there in the summer, and stayed at one of the university dorms -- Liberty Living, near downtown -- and the young women staying there (usually studying English) tended to be very friendly, and not the club tart type. This option, which is much cheaper than hotels though you may have to stay a week at least, might be available to the general public if you come late enough in December that the students have left for Xmas break.

The rain put a damper on things, but I'd go back to Southampton. Bon voyage.

It's quite near where I grew up. There's some interesting naval history there, but otherwise it's a bit meh. It's pretty poor and run down. At least there's a regular train service to London. It's also near to Portsmouth, which also has some good tourist sites but again it's also run down.

Do yourself a favour, enjoy your trip and don't look for 'problems' where there aren't any. You are going to be surprised that there aren't 'migrants' festering everywhere and the likelihood of you coming across one - never mind them starting trouble with you - are minimal.

It's a new start in Europe, don't act like a jerk and you'll be fine.

I'll say this about my country, it is easy to find trouble if you want it, and if you end up in jail on knife crime violations - well, you will be meeting more hardline Muslims (usually black, Afro-Caribbean and British born) than you would care for in HMP - they run the jails these days and have forcibly converted white prisoners and put bans on eating pork on whole wings - so yeah, good luck with that one if you stupidly end up in such a situation.

yick: Yeah, I figured I'd be fine if I didn't act like a jerk. Seem a lot of Europeans aren't looking to figure out how someone is an asshole, they just see him as one when or if he acts like one. That's one thing the riles me up about America- they're always playing "find the fault or fabricate one." It's almost like a Lex Luthor Syndrome.

Glad to hear about the "migrants," I was worried that it was like a flood & they were everywhere. I heard that about the prisons- shocking. Would have thought that would be a place where the government could really come down on them. I guess I won't bother with some of my knives, then. Are multi-tools with a locking knife blade considered okay?

Depending on what you look like and how you act, you may have more problems with chavs than with muzzies, pakis or other migrants. I never did. But I don't look like the type of person teenage bullies will pick on even when I saw them getting loud and picking targets. They stay clear. I don't know why British people tolerate such behaviour. They just need one solid pk to learn some manners.

Then again I don't have problems going alone into black areas either. Maybe I just look like a friendly chap

Good point right there from Kradmelder, white Brits are more likely to give you problems than any other demographic. The places you will meet these people are around places that have no interest to you, shopping precincts late at night in suburban areas, 'local' pubs where everyone knows your name. Stick to town/city centre and you should be fine.

Knives, they will spot them going through the scanner off the plane, so I wouldn't bring your whole hunting set unless you want some awkward questions at immigration.

Yick, don't forget the other gathering points of chavs: McDonald's parking lots, anywhere near council housing Estates, near shops that sell track suit trousers and cheap imitation gold jewellery .

And the mouth on the chavettes.....obviously their parents never made them eat soap. They rather spent the soap money on big screen TV or beer there is nothing more low class than a low class white brit.

American trailer trash is well mannered by comparison. Travelling through usa people invited me to stay over in their trailer park in Nevada. Like a stereotype. Poor working class, caps and cowboy hats, but really good people. They prefer to work. Can't say the same about chavs, who are basically white niggers.

I grew up in Hampshire which is the county where Southampton is located. It's most famous for being a port but you probably already know that. You can sail to France here and I think also to Bilbao in Spain.

I wouldn't bring any knives if I was you. They've clamped down lately on blades due to a a whole bunch of fatal stabbings mainly in London several years ago.

Ja. I was watching the results. I was grinning ear to ear and how upset wolf blitzer looked on Jews Tell the News CNN. After getting my fix on seeing jews pissed off I switched to another channel. The bbc had a better more eual coverage. I don't like CNN. Good one for the USA. the first political victory for the white man since russians kicked out the Jew bandits the west installed in the Ukraine. Almost as good as if eruopeans started sinking illegal migrant boats

Not just awkward questions...but possible arrest.

Kradmelder: It's interesting you mention the sinking of their boats- since, technically, they're not supposed to be accepting aid from non-believers. Everything from using their momentum against them in a fight to getting plucked out of the water is "harem" & could easily be interpreted as being a "hypocrite" which carries a death sentence, if I'm not mistaken. Might even be seen as apostasy!

Nothing to say they don't go after the Italian (or whoever) boats that go to bring them back, since they see them as enemies to begin with & now they're going to add them as something of an accessory to "their people's" "sins". I think the Italian sailors would likely be okay, but the "migrants" would probably drown. Certainly I'm not the only one that thinks this is a possibility. If that started happening, I'm betting that would be the story behind it.
