Poll: Why did big brother give us the internet?
Poll: Why did big brother give us the internet?
Why did big brother give us the internet?
1) To enrich our lives.
It's simply big brother helping in the pursuit of happiness. (Your taxes at work, for good).
2) To abolish privacy and expand government spying.
Why settle for 80% control when you can have 99% in just a few decades.
3) To make us utterly hopeless human beings.
To divide us. Make us dysfunctional and out of touch with reality.
4) To expose us to pornography.
Before the home computer and internet hit critical mass in the the late 90s, early 2000s, most people were not exposed to porn. The average man or woman regardless of age would never dare walk into an "Adult Video" store and purchase some smut. Even playboys were not that common. The (degenerative) effects of porn are too numerous to mention so it's impossible to pin-point a single reason (or create a single theory) for the proliferation of porn. But the anti-Christian element definitely should not be ignored.
5) It's part of a grand plan thousands of years in the making.
It is the "net" or "web" spoken of in the Bible, Kabbalah, and other occult and religious text and teachings. It's part of a much larger picture that we commoners cannot even conceive of.
6) All of the above.
Perhaps all factors are intertwined with the one big reason, the consolidation of power.

If i remember correctly as the memory is not so good as you get older, the internet was first created by scientists and the military?
I rarely google before i come up with an answer. It was for private use. Then i believe someone had a light bulb moment and thought of all the cash they could make with online business.
Money, commerce, finance that is all it is.

Well television, computers, video games were also created by the "military". You could conclude television and video games were profit driven inventions. But that wouldn't be telling the whole story would it. Without television, brainwash becomes much harder. Without Doom and Call of Duty suddenly the army is short on recruits.
The microwave was also a profit driven intention. Or was it scientifically designed by the military then given (sold) to morons who happily destroyed their own family's health by using it? Probably all of the above and then some.. like CheezeRaider mentioned, they're playing chess and we're playing checkers.
TV didn't empower the user. The internet at least has the potential to do that. You'd think big brother would be worried about BBS and forums which people with similar interested (who were previously disconnected) could use to organize. That sort of thing threatens the system.

Same thing if i remember correctly microwaves were discovered by accident on a U.S Navy ship. If i am wrong correct me. The internet has made my life much more easier. Before i had to plow through tons of books at the library. Now the library of libraries is online all the time, no closing hours. My research has greatly improved. So there is some good to it. There is some bad as SOME people get addicted to the free porn and free games. And become fat lazy couch potatoes.

How exactly is internet porn "anti Christian", as you put it?

The internet gave mainstream access to porn for lots of people. I was lucky enough to have a few sexual partners in my teens, so porn never crossed my mind. But for those other guys that were less fortunate, and went through high school and possibly college without getting laid, where else could they turn for sexual gratification and pleasure? Masturbation + porn screws with your dopamine receptors and reward/pleasure circuitry. The same brain chemistry occurs in watching porn as addiction. Its a high. http://yourbrainonporn.com/ is a great site. It goes into extensive detail about the effects of porn.
Porn-induced ED is a real phenomenon. Young guys who have fried their brains watching too much porn will find they can't get it up for a real woman/girlfriend when the time comes to do the deed, and then get dumped because they can't perform. You can see how this can become a vicious cycle for a lot of guys.
Couple that with the immediate gratification factor that is now present today, its no surprise that we are becoming even more disconnected as humans. The attitude is shaping to become this (especially AW): why should I bother getting with a guy when I have my career? My porn and/or vibrators will take of that. I don't need a guy.

I believe the Internet was the the DoD -> to -> public, commercialization of the Information Superhighway.
And like all prior defense initiatives, the idea was to provide the surveillance groups: NSA, DIA, etc, a way to expand their scope w/o needing a massive increase in R&D, since the net is just a collections of IP addresses w/ TCP packets floating about. Even a junior IT person can run a `tcpdump` on the stack and read about what people are saying w/o needing to hack a telephone switch.
The only thing the agencies needed to do was to bander the bandwidth providers, so that they can put the sniffing algorithms in an easy place, for immediate retrieval. Now, with at least 70+% of commercial and personal data floating about a single 'network', it's easier for NSA analysts to make determinations w/o needing an alternate research team to cross check with disparate networks and communication tools.
All and all, it's a slam dunk for both, a surveillance society and for the database server industries.

Re: Poll: Why did big brother give us the internet?
Good question. I would presume that big brother knew the risk to them that the internet would pose, in that the free flow of information would wake many people up to what was going on in the world. However, they deemed it an acceptable risk for whatever agenda was on their mind. They must have calculated all of it out. As FDR said, nothing happens by accident.
Basically, the internet gives people a virtual reality to live in, which separates them from real reality. So any war or revolution that happens online would still be mostly virtual, not in the real world. The elite probably feel they can control the virtual world better than we can, or an information war, so they are confident they can deal with it.
Plus when people do everything in front of a computer, it pacifies them. Instead of taking up guns and standing up to authority, they type on keyboards and go on podcasts to protest. So it makes people less physical too. In the past, when people had no TV or computers or consumerism to live for, they had nothing to lose in a war or revolution in which they took up arms or swords or guns to overthrow the government or monarchy. So with no outlet, they would see armed uprising as the only way. Now that we have consumerism and smart phones and computers, people have a safer outlet to voice their rebellion, rather than take up arms in real life. So in that sense it pacifies people so that they only rebel with words on a computer, not with armed resistance. And that makes people safer for the elite. Plus the big brother can always put out its shills, like maybe Alex Jones.
