Why are old people in the US so angry?

Post by CannedHam »

Okay, obviously not all, but I've met so many miserable old people in the US (including some of my neighbors) and it drives me insane. What do they have to be angry about?
  • They are guaranteed to get SS and medicare until they die (or at least another 30+ years), unlike younger people these days, who pay in and will likely see little if anything down the road
  • They grew up in a time when you could work in a factory or in a trade, have your wife stay home, and still have enough money for a comfortable life, house, car, etc. No Master's degree required for a $15/hour secretary job like nowadays
  • The 1960s - 1990s was a period of massive economic expansion, anyone with a 401k, pension, or any other investment made out like a bandit
  • Most of these angry people I've met have been "relatively" healthy for their ages, making it to age 70+ without cancer, heart attack, lost limbs etc. I could understand their anger/frustration if, for example, they were confined to a wheelchair
One of my neighbors literally spends the entire day watching Fox News and ranting about minorities. He told me the only time he goes out is to the VFW once in a while to drink Bud Light and rant about blacks with other angry old people, and sometimes to see his kids.

So what the f**k is wrong with these people? I've seen elders living in Vietnam, China, Phillipines who basically lived their whole lives in poverty and are in much better spirits.

You have the arrow of causation reversed: doing nothing is what CAUSES them to be angry, versus anger causing them to do nothing.

Speaking as an older person myself (59), with excess time on my hands, the most important factor in keeping me cheerful is 2 to 5 hours of slow but steady outdoor exercise. Hiking or bicycling in my case, but gardening, active fishing or hunting, chopping wood, gathering berries, eyc would also work.

Maybe not having much to do/in their lives, seeing their country turn down a bad road, not being liked as far as social perception goes, and maybe not seeing any prospects for their kids/grandkids/etc... . Could always be a Hemingway thing (not able to do what they used to be able to do, not measuring up in their idea of what's a good level, etc...).

And they weren't exactly blameless in that.

He should print out a couple dozen of these kinds of images and hand them out at those VFW meetings and sit back for the fireworks.

Liberal or conservative it doesn't matter both groups of aging Americans are shit because they never did anything for their kids and will never do anything for their grandkids or even their country besides watching mainstream media and complaining. And voting in career politicians like McCain, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Cruz and Maxine Waters which is even worse than doing nothing.

I think 'old people' don't like the younger generations. Then again, I think the younger generations don't like old people either!

Yes, I am the almighty and omnipotent OZ. Cultures rise or fall on my command.

Other than the end of Jim Crow laws and the introduction of more and healthier food options (of course, the crap food you get in most grocery stores is worse than ever), I can't think of a single change in the U.S. during my lifetime that I supported.

There you go with your selfish boomerism. The sheer scale of the damage you people did by unleashing a repulsive ape population onto human society is staggering. Think of the scores of thousands of killings, rapes, robberies, attacks, ruined educations, ruined neighbourhoods etc. not to mention the shitty customer service, ruined businesses and so forth and the sheer unpleasantness of having to put up with their annoying ogga booga voices and horrible monkey faces. What did the victims of your crime do to you to make you want to do this to them? If the preponderance of your generation weren’t such selfish, callous jerks the world might be a better place.

Corny, you are a laugh riot. I've got no problem with de facto segregation, which different cultures will naturally settle into, but putting the power of the state behind enforced segregation of public accommodations is odious. I'm old enough to remember the segregated South, and it was jarring. Anybody who counts himself a Christian would have to be offended by assigning second-class citizenship to an entire race of people based on the color of their skin. Sorry for the cliches, but this seems self-evident, absent racial theories of the type you espouse.

No question, though, that desegregation in the U.S. has not worked out well. And I think that's exactly what its prime instigators had in mind.

Watch out, Corn. CE may be fixin to ride into town, six guns blazing. Just like old times.

CE is a sex tourist and Corn is an internet conservative, both have similar justifications for their lifestyles and some deep rooted issues that will continue to run their subconscious. For instance CE can't handle black women and Cornfed will end up married to one. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=41816

But what makes you think that? The thing is that it is YOUR state and YOUR public accomodations and they are to be used in the interests of YOUR PEOPLE. To think otherwise is to believe the words of a certain group of people that want you to be an ethno-masochist. Don’t do that. As to Christianity, I know there seems to be a certain element of communism and ethno-masochism to it, and there is more to that than I can explain in a post, but if you look at it, it is not the case. We would have to discuss the matter.
