Safest vs Most Dangerous Countries in the World Ranked

Post by WilliamSmith »

I found this site that ranked the safest vs most dangerous countries in the world:
https://www.travelsafe-abroad.com/countries/

Due diligence is always needed on top of generalized rankings like this, but a lot of the relative rankings they listed here seemed pretty accurate from what I've looked into, even though it's also always true there's safer vs more dangerous sub-zones in every country.

You can see they have it color-coded on their site:
They rank 66 and above as Green (comparatively safe), 65 to 34 orange (medium), and 33 and lower red zone for higher danger.

Then you can click a country and they have a page for each country with more details. Looks pretty useful and informative to me!

They described their methodology briefly like this:
We analyzed data from public sources such as police reports and international polls and ran a unique formula to calculate the risk based on the number of incidents including mugging, drugs, violent crimes, bribery, property crimes, stolen vehicles, religion, and racial tolerance and more.

Our index rank countries from 0-100, 0-33 being the most dangerous, 33-66 somewhat safe/dangerous, and 66-100 the safest.
I thought of this because we were having an exchange in another thread where @WanderingProtagonist pointed out there was a lot of crime in parts of Jamaica and some African countries, but looking at lists like this you can actually see some Caribbean and African countries rank as even safer in general than many Asian or collapsing ex-European or 'Western' countries.

They list all countries in one big list that you can look at alphabetically or ranked by their scores, but I'm going to edit this post in a minute and put in the rankings organized by the major geographic areas I'm interested in............

I'm partway done with this list organizing them by rough geographic regions, but getting lazy so going to post it now and fix it later. There's probably some errors from either accidents and/or my American-styled geographic knowledge/lack-of-knowledge

How could Taiwan possibly rank below Mexico? There’s nothing going on in Taiwan and according to Winston he says it’s basically too safe/sanitized to be interesting for a lot of people. This list doesn’t seem to be based off of anything.

Most of it's pretty accurate, but I wondered about Taiwan's case too. They have a profile page for every country where they explain it for each country but I haven't looked yet. There is a lot of organized crime in Taiwan, and I wondered if that was the reason. Also, Winston is awesome but I really don't think his take on Taiwan is 100% accurate on them supposedly being a bunch of mindless lifeless drones, LOL, I've known Taiwanese people and they've got a lot more to them than that even if he doesn't vibe with them.

Well here's their answer: https://www.travelsafe-abroad.com/taiwan/
Warnings & Dangers in Taiwan
Overall Risk
OVERALL RISK : LOW
Taiwan is generally safe to travel to, but it's not without its dangers. The only concern is a petty crime on the streets, but if you apply the basic precaution measures, your trip should go smoothly.

Transport & Taxis Risk
TRANSPORT & TAXIS RISK : LOW
Though public transport is mostly safe and reliable, it is filled with pickpockets and petty thieves. Always negotiate everything in advance and never pay upfront. Transportation stations are also risky, as they are known to attract criminals. Bear in mind that Taiwan is filled with unlicensed taxi vehicles that don't use meters and might try to rip you off.

Pickpockets Risk
PICKPOCKETS RISK : MEDIUM
There is a heightened risk of pickpockets in Taiwan since it has around 10 million visitors a year. Don‘t leave anything valuable in your back pockets and be especially vigilant in crowded places.

Natural Disasters Risk
NATURAL DISASTERS RISK : LOW
As for natural disasters, Taiwan has a high risk of earthquakes. There are also risks of typhoons, especially between July to November and tourists are recommended to refrain from visiting the mountains during these periods.

Mugging Risk
MUGGING RISK : LOW
Taiwan, on the whole, is extremely safe. Crime against foreigners is rare, and violent crime, and incidents such as mugging and rape, against foreigners are extremely rare.

Terrorism Risk
TERRORISM RISK : LOW
Even though in Taiwan's recent history there haven't been any terrorist attacks, one can never be too cautious, and things such as terrorist attacks can never be ruled out, so be aware of your surroundings at all times.

Scams Risk
SCAMS RISK : HIGH
The most common scams are connected with the ATMs. There is the popular scam of someone calling you, impersonating a bank employee or a hotel staff and asking you to confirm your credit card information. There is also the risk of ATM fraud so try and use the machines that are inside.

Women Travelers Risk
WOMEN TRAVELERS RISK : LOW
Taiwan is safe for solo women travelers. Just use your common sense and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Avoid wearing purses and do not walk alone or ride in taxis at night.

So... How Safe Is Taiwan Really?
Taiwan is relatively safe to visit.

Though the rates of violent crime are low by world standards, you are recommended to remain vigilant at all times.

Petty crime rates are low as well, but pickpocketing and bag-snatching do occur, especially in locations frequented by tourists.

The shady, criminal side of Taiwan usually happens around barbershops and nightclubs which act as fronts for prostitution.

However, it is easy to differentiate the dodgy ones from real, legitimate businesses.

Real barber shops openly advertise their business and you can see through their windows barbers cutting hair, and if you can’t – that’s the dodgy one.

Apart from this, you should keep in mind that there have been reports of people being assaulted by taxi drivers: this happened a couple of time, and though it received unreasonably more media coverage than it should’ve since it only happened a couple of times, it still pays to remain vigilant.

Women, for example, should be cautious when taking taxis alone late at night and it is even recommended for them to only tell taxi drivers the street name and section, instead of their exact address.

Reading their “explanation” it still doesn’t make sense. They’re essentially saying there’s nothing to worry about but giving it a mid tier score. I mean how can they give Taiwan a score that is barely higher then South Africa’s? Also Americans have been kidnapped and killed in Mexico. It was only a year or two ago that that entire family got slaughtered in Mexico yet Mexico is given a score of 65?

Winston may be exaggerating the “drone-like” stuff but I guess the point I was making is that Taiwan is like ultra safe. You’re safer in Taiwan then you are in pretty much any European country yet Taiwan is given a really mediocre score?

Yeah, it's definitely a good point that it doesn't work too well if you compare only the numeric scores of certain countries that are in completely different geographical regions.
However, there is definitely some useful general "bird's eye view" value of the list for most places that are in the same geographic regions, for example by ranking Caribbean vs Caribbean nations. And they go into a lot of specific detail about most countries if you click their hyperlink.

For Mexico, for example, even if you can't compare the numeric scores of it vs Taiwan, they talk about tons of stuff I'm not posting, including this detail:
https://www.travelsafe-abroad.com/mexico/
Safest Places to Visit in Mexico
The safest place to visit in Mexico is Cancun, or anywhere along what is called the Mexican Riviera.

The area of Yucatan is built for tourists and it is safe for that reason.

You can also take guided day trips from there to see the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza or Tulum, which are also safe.

Cozumel is a tiny island near Cancun that is also a tourist haven, as well as a snorkeling paradise.

The historic center of Mexico City is also a fabulous place to visit and is safe as long as you don’t wander about at night alone.

Merida is a large Yucatan city that is often overlooked by American tourists.

It has a great colonial heritage, beautiful streets, and squares.

It is close to the ocean, with some beautiful underdeveloped beaches.

Placess to Avoid in Mexico
Cities that border the United States are considered unsafe because of drug cartels.

Ciudad Juarez, across from El Paso; Tijuana, south of California; Reynosa, which borders Texas, and Ciudad Obregon near Arizona, are all considered unsafe.

Do not travel there alone and exercise extreme caution.

The U.S. Government has issued a “do not travel” designation for Mazatlán, Acapulco, Matamoros, and Nuevo Laredo.

The “do not travel” designation is because of increased violence, drug cartel activity, and Covid-19.

Generally, the southern part of Mexico is much safer than the northern states.

The states of Sinaloa, Nuevo Leon, Guerrero, and Michoacan all have “do not travel” advisories from the state department.

Some resort cities on this list are unsafe outside the resort, but nearly all resorts themselves are safe for travelers.
Due diligence is essential regardless of what this site says, but I'm finding it fairly useful as a general ranking of places in the same geographic areas (Caribbean, Latin America, etc).

Also: Latin American countries (among others) are tricky, because there's often parts of them even in the most dangerous ones that are "mostly" completely safe because the heavy-hitters in authority (police, military, etc) keep them tourist safe for revenues (and maybe even some Dickensy goodwill toward their fellow humans),. But then if you just wandered around out to the boonies or into the wrong neighborhoods where tourists aren't encouraged to go, annoying certain groups of locals on their own turf could get you in a bodybag or diced up in a zillion pieces in a lot of ways.

The list looks like someone read Lonely Planet and then compiled the list based on that. It doesn't seem to be seriously researched.

Interesting question @Tsar , I just figured it was because of the outbreak of war + knew there's jew mafia and other criminals that have been in there, but I looked also at their detail pages:
https://www.travelsafe-abroad.com/ukraine/
https://www.travelsafe-abroad.com/russia/

But isn't it true that in some areas impacted by the war (even if not combat zones), there's no government services and also that means way more criminals than normal? The fact the jews did the Ukraine ZOG since 2014 and started the war doesn't mean that the war itself is just a myth or that it's safe to just go in there! :o

However, from what little I knew from talking to Ukrainians many years ago (before Ukraine coup) I think there might be other reasons Ukraine wasn't one of the safest countries (even if it's a good nation worth respecting otherwise, if not for the jews starting the war vs the Russians):

I am not knowledgeable about deep Ukraine details, but I once did look into Ukraine and talk to a lot of Ukrainians before I started scoring with "non-white" :) women as heavily (and decided to say bye to white countries), and the Ukrainians told me there were a lot of hoodlums, muggings, scammers, and stuff like that even before the jews installed the Ukraine ZOG.

Also, this may not have made it into the list on that site, but after the Ukraine coup the jews most likely had a lot more jew mafia operating there, and I heard they did stuff like trapping girls into making black rape porn to sell + get them into the Israeli sex slave trade (and saw stories on that, though jew mafia has been doing that to Russian and Ukrainian girls bigtime at least since the jew oligarchs were raping Russia in the 1990s, a long time before the 2014 ZOG), and I heard of some busts and scandals involving their organ harvesting rings and so on too.
So hard to say exactly what impacts you if you went there to some part away from the combat, but I don't think it's just 'Western' propaganda to say it's dangerous in Ukraine??

Then there's Russia... I don't even know if American citizens are allowed to go in there or not since that's not on my list, but of course being a gigantic country there's parts that would be safe if you actually had the political status to stay there (though obviously not anywhere ZOG might hit with nukes if the SHTF that way).

But even though the Czar is worthy of some respect for sure, it is still full of jew oligarchs and the jew mafia, as well as quite a bit of crime even before the geopolitical crises broke out.

At a glance, the site mentioned kidnapping rings in the North Caucasus, and high terrorist risk in parts of Chechnya and other specific areas (see the site if you want the details).

On the positive side I noticed Russia had a law outlawing faggots from distributing gay propaganda to minors since 2013. Good job Russia, good luck beating the ZOG and surviving!

Anyway, the same points as before applies to so many of these countries where if you're allowed in, some of even the very most dangerous ones will have some haven where heavy hitters in police or military make sure there's little to no crime risk in the part where they want tourists, even if there's a lot of S hitting the F elsewhere, but it's not like the numeric score can capture it without looking at the detail page.
Oh, and also stuff that isn't necessarily that big a deal like pickpockets and scammers that is very unlikely to kill you still ranks on these sites to drop the scores. *shrugs*

Re: Safest vs Most Dangerous Countries in the World Ranked

Post by WilliamSmith »

Here's another ranking list, not the most dangerous countries this time, but most dangerous cities:
https://www.worldatlas.com/cities/the-m ... world.html

There, now you guys can all give it the raspberry and talk about how wrong it is, LOL.

The top 10 "most dangerous" list according to these guys, without the details:

Celaya, Mexico
Tijuana, Mexico
Ciudad Juarez, Mexico
Ciudad Obregon, Mexico
Irapuato, Mexico
Ensenada, Mexico
St. Louis, United States
Uruapan, Mexico
Fiera de Santana, Brazil
Cape Town, South Africa

I know someone from Chicago who's practically a refugee from there (a bad part of it), so thought Chicago might be on the list, but apparently only St Louis ranks up with the bloodbath in the Mexican cities and some other hotspots in Brazil, SA, Venezuela, etc. Chicago doesn't seem to even be on the extended list, though no surprise Baltimore, New Orleans, Detroit, etc are.

Anyway, I looked this up just because @Pixel--dude and I both like Jamaica and I wanted to see where Kingston ranked. (17th place according to this list, rightly or wrongly.)

I'm lazily posting the rest of these without explaining the #s that came from the columns (so see the link if you want to see the data):
