Things are not as good as they used to be, that's for sure. A good friend of mine is in Thailand for a month. He has been to Bangkok for a week and is now in Pattaya. I like your idea of being "extra adventurous" and roam some of the poorest areas on the planet, including the African countries you just mentioned. The problem arises when our Lone Hero hasn't done his homework, or underestimates the safety risks of venturing in such places.
