You need to state your experience of China and where you are - I have been living here since 2009. I had an African American colleague who was a few years advanced of middle age who dated (and dumped) a very beautiful, fair skinned young woman, 5ft 10ins who is now working as cabin crew for Air China.

He was in charming, in excellent shape, dressed well, always had a smile on his face and he always got decent looking women in China.

It is possible if you have things going for you - if not, well...

Again - your 'meh' is not their 'meh' - what floats your boat might be a 'meh' for many guys.

If you are after actual models and you are a foreigner who can't speak decent Chinese and don't make a decent living comparable to a well to do Chinese eligible bachelor - well - good luck with that.

If you say "meh in Asia..." that's another story. I have done the thing where I sat down with my Chinese buddies going over girl's pics doing the, "What about this girl?" thing. It's clear to me that what I like, they don't like. What they like, does nothing for me. They say this is always the case with foreigners. Our tastes are simply different. I would show a picture of some girl I think is amazing and they would really be like, "Meh... Just average here in China."

On the other hand, if I sit down at he pub with Brits and Scots, suddenly we seem to like the same things. The Chinese guys in our group will be like "Why?"

I'll give you some information about me - I look like a mixed race Kazakh - and because I look something not too disimilar to them (though I am an obvious foreigner) with black hair, brown eyes and a similar skin tone to some Chinese people as well as being over 6 feet and 200lbs with a nice firm ass - I get decent attention from nice looking women - probably more so than some white guy with ginger hair that would scare the shit out of a lot of Chinese women.

But I don't get a lot of attention of poor, ugly women - because I don't - in fact that isn't how it works in China. It wouldn't matter how much money you had as a laowai there are dirt poor Chinese families who would rather eat burning coal than have you in their family - and the same goes for their daughters and dating you. You can't buy your way in, in China - anyone who says they can is a liar (or is a foreigner of Chinese ethnicity - they are more capable of it than some white dude).

There is a girl whose dad is a multi millionaire who is studying in Canada now and loved the bones off me - she was tall, pale skinned, spoke excellent English - loads of western guys fancied her but she didn't like any of them whatsoever - she is now dating a Chinese guy.

Before they met me it was a non-starter. She definitely wasn't going to be allowed to be with me and that was that. After meeting me, and I did already start to speak a tiny bit of Chinese, things warmed up quickly.

The reality is, you could be the real Chris Evans, but if a girl's mother says she isn't dating you, she isn't dating you.

So I want my Asian women to look Asian, with single eyelid, slim eyes, roundish face, high cheekbones and dark skin is cool too.

One of the best looking girls I knew, and probably a sadly missed opportunity, was a Filipina who was very dark, about the same as me. If I took her to the USA she would probably pass for just another black girl, but she had very Asian eyes. I doubt anyone here would consider her attractive in the least, but she was my 10!

This is a good salient point right here, there is more chance of being accepted by a family that has a bit of money, where the parents are educated and are a bit more open minded - they might not like it a first but there is more chance of getting that approval in the long run than going to some rural village and trying to winning over uneducated peasants who would see you akin to something that has come down from outer space.

I read a lot about men going to the Philippines and if they are seen to be decent and good sorts, people offering dates for their daughter, niece etc - that would NEVER happen in China! Never, never, never - you could be the richest white man in the world and they would never do that. I am not criticizing the Philippines and how they do it there by the way, but you cannot buy your way in, in China.

Another thing - if you (plural) are some average bloke, average height, average looking, not in shape, older - then you have to realise you are up against Chinese guys who are all these things also - you have to bring other stuff to the table - from what I know about this, Chinese girls don't have a white man/foreigner fetish as such rather than there are a percentage of women who WILL give you a chance if you tick their boxes - I think the Chinese female version of 'yellow fever' is quite rare where they will just date any foreigner - my example of rich girl who liked me - lots of white guys liked her but she wasn't into them, and it didn't matter what money they had because she had more money than them.

When people talk about 'Asia' like the OP - we need to distinguish the differences - China is not the Phillippines but then China isn't Korea and Korea is not Japan. This discourse is important when talking about this.

Winston has already said something along the lines of if he got laid by the blonde cheerleader in High School then he would have happily stayed in America, he said the reason he went to Russia was to have a blonde, white woman ravish him. That is why Russia and the Ukarine remain the favourite spots for the HA community - if these women could speak English then very few would be going to the Philippines. If the Philippines was like Indonesia - where they were Muslim and spoke Indonesian - nobody would go for the 'wonderful girls' even though Filipinas and Indonesians are very closely related racially.

I worked in Asia. Lots of girls in Indonesia liked me. I could tell. They would flirt with me. A couple of them sent presents home to my mother when I went back to the US. Others explained to me this was in hopes of buttering up a potential mother-in-law, just in case. I could probably think of 20 or 30 or so girls I worked with or knew from church or elsewhere who showed some interest in me based on their interactions with me. That's not counting ones I couldn't remember. I remember I just exchanged a few words with a girl on the bus and she gave me her business card. I was selective about getting married, not just on looks, but also on spiritual criteria and a number of other factors. I ended up with a very good-looking woman, too. And it really doesn't matter what other people think of what your wife looks like. We all start to look wrinkly and unattracive if we live long enough. You aren't going to be good-looking when you are old and neither will your wife.

As far as skin tone is concerned, what's wrong with a girl being dark? My wife is fairly light skinned. She could darken up a little if she stayed in the sun, but she stays out of the sun and uses creams and such to protect her skin. But what does not being dark-skinned have to do with being good-looking? I remember when I first got to Jakarta, at the grocery store I shopped at, there was this rather dark-skinned cashier. Not Africa dark, but very dark. But she was very pretty. I couldn't speak Indonesia and couldn't really communicate with her. There are a lot of really pretty dark-skinned women. If a woman is a bit dark, but pretty, it's like Indonesians are blind to her beauty because of her skin tone, so there is probably little 'competition' for her. But who cares? If a woman's looks don't float your boat, but float her husbands boat, good for him. You don't have to marry her, kiss her, etc.

I was talking to one of my wife's cousins. I think her dad is dead. She had this male friend who was hanging out with her. He didn't ask her to be his girlfriend or to marry him. Instead, he just asked her mom if he could marry her without asking the girl. She liked him, so she was cool with it. I told him maybe he did that to make it hard for her to say no.
