Pete Buttigieg - Presidential Candidate (D) 2020
Re: Pete Buttigieg - Presidential Candidate (D) 2020
I also wonder if the back and forth with Tulsi was Tulsi's attempt to get her named mentioned so she could speak more, and she likely chose a weak candidate she knew could not win the nomination, and a contender for the woman on the VP ticket.
The virtue signalling of an announcement that they would choose a black woman candidate was just weird to me. Why should the politicians say anything about her being black? The media will. They definitely shouldn't say they chose her because she is black or a woman. That undermines her credibility. We know that's a factor, but the politicians should have the good sense not to mention it, especially the while politicians.
I weighed in a bit on hiring some candidates for a position at work recently. It's not my decision, but I just get to make comments after the interview and our collective opinion is supposed to be a factor. There were two white men and one black woman. I thought one of the white men had the best experience and presented himself the best. The other two were okay. The black woman brought a unique background and knowledge that I thought could help some of our programs better. We have the potential to serve a lot of blacks, though, which are underrepresented, IMO, given the population we serve. I could see how hiring a black person (male or female) could help in that regard. But did I say that in my comments? No. I just pointed out how her background was unique. I said the one white guy was a better presenter and had more experience, but this candidate had a unique background that could contribute. I left race out of it. I was raised in generation X, and I feel uncomfortable giving people any kind of favor because of their race. I get that sense of discomfort talking about racial issues with blacks. it's socially uncomfortable, depending on the topic. But now, it's like the left has no filter when it comes to this. They are very overt about choosing someone because he or she is black. It's like they don't understand what discrimination actually means.
Women do not vote as a block. Ultra left wing women might. But conservative and some of the swing voters aren't going to do that.

I wonder how black men think about voting for a woman because she is black. Would a black man rather vote for a man, like him, or a black woman, who is black like him? How does a half-Indian resonate with black voters? Does it matter much to blacks after Obama? The ceiling has been broken for blacks. How many blacks want to break the presidential ceiling for women?
It's in the DNA. A lot of women are comfortable being led by a man. Some have the bad feminist ideology working against that. But DNA and hard wiring works against voting for women because they are women, especially if the opponent is a strong masculine man. Physically, Trump is too old to be that macho. But he is tall and on a personality level, it's hard to find a stronger personality, and he is as bold as a lion. I think that will resonate with __some__ female voters. I read he got 53% of the white female vote last time. Now he has proven himself. This website reported the 53%.
https://theundefeated.com/features/blac ... p-problem/
The website reported this dishonestly, " Whose votes helped hand the presidency to a man who said women who have abortions should face punishment and bragged that he grabs women “by the p—-.”" Trump didn't say he did, but he said as a celebrity you could. He was making a dirty joke/comment. The media made it out like he said he was going around doing that. It's an obvious distortion that insults our intelligence. Some women might actually like those comments and go weak in the knees when they hear it. Libertine feminists might be especially susceptible to that. Maybe the comment won him some of the female vote. :lol
The media is so skewed these days, I think the major networks will pick and choose stats like they do stories. They were way off in their statistical predictions last time. A lot of potential Trump voters will keep their preferences secret because of the hate in some regions, too.

It's not my area, but I just thought of a great research project. Have female respondents identify as liberal and conservative and measure their views on things. Play the clip of Trump saying he could grab women by the '...' and then measure whether they liked him...with the hypothesis that liberal women with libertine sexual morals will like him more after.

@MrMan , no no no. He's Mixed not Black. You cannot be that much of a bigot or a pseudo-intellect to not see and/or know that. Then as a first-tier candidate she proceeded to garner next to no support in the primaries. An unusually unlikable pol.
But I think Trump has shown a lot of very bold leadership, even though he makes the unnecessary insults and sometimes ill-thought-out and unwise comments and tweets. He certainly has the gumption to lead even when he will face criticism for his decisions, and from what i know of his judicial appointments, his presidency has been positive for the country in that regard as well. The COVID-19 scare created a huge recession, but I do not blame that on Trump, of course. The economy was booming before that.

I used to be on a listserve back when they had those with a PhD in Classics who used no caps at all and hardly any punctuation. Capitalizing 'Black'/'black' is debated. One news outlet was capitalizing black and not white. But newspeople often have poor language usage. (ABC style:
"Newcasters, having a poor grip of the language, using grammar wrongly.") Black is generally an adjective, not a proper noun. 'Blacks' as a plural is a noun.

You probably mean a proper noun. The argument that American Blacks see themselves as a distinct people like Irish or Germans kind of makes sense. But it shouldn't be capitalized if we are talking about blacks in Africa if that is the case, and Obama was half African, so the small 'b' makes sense in reference to him. And whites/Whites in the US see 'White' as an ethnic designation since many of us are from mixed European heritage and a lot of people do not know what countries in Europe to identify with.
