A question for those of you who've made the move already
Re: A question for those of you who've made the move already
Yohan,
Where in Europe are you from? Why didn't you just go to another part of Europe? Most of Europe is pretty friendly and inclusive and has a positive vibe, not a toxic vibe.
But if you're in Japan, then how can anywhere in Europe be worse? I mean Japanese are so strict and uptight and act like they are in a voluntary police state without any government pressure. Total hive mind. I heard women don't like talking to strangers there, is that so? And no one makes eye contact or interacts with strangers? Only elderly talk to strangers, just like Taiwan right? I cannot imagine Japan being more friendly or open than anywhere in Europe, including Scandanavia.
But we all see the world differently and have different chemistry.
Are you like Rock, in that you are an egg - white on the outside and yellow on the inside? lol
What are Japan's seasons like? Since it's further north, it must be colder most of the time right? Does it ever get humid there? Is it insect infested in the nature areas? What about the Japanese Tea Gardens? All the videos I see of Japan do not show any bugs or insects and it looks very clean. But what about in the forest areas?
Why was it hard for you to make friends in Europe? It has a very inclusive vibe there, compared to America. And strangers talk to you a lot. It feels like the Old World when people were down to earth and soulful and talked freely without fear. How can you not like that? How can Japan be better?

Re: A question for those of you who've made the move already
I happen to be stuck in Florida at the moment. I usually leave in April right after my taxes are filed, but this Corona crap has made my usual haunts close their borders to non-citizens.
I don't like it here. I think the people are (for the most part) crappy, low-caliber types, and the women are now not even hiding the fact that they want your money. The skankification factor is as high as I have seen in my life.
I have girls overseas pining for me to return and I actually want to see them.
If we use the the nightclub analogy, American women are like strip clubs, while women in Eastern Europe are like exclusive lounges. You can have fun in strip clubs, but it is skanky and transactional. In lounges, it is a matter of quality over quantity and there is little to no ulterior motive to deprive you of money with no substantial return.
I have also learned a new term that the young girls here are employing. It is called "finessing" which means manipulating or scamming a man out of his money.
America sucks and I hope it collapses so I can enjoy "The Reset."

Re: A question for those of you who've made the move already
I am originally from Austria (EU), but I left already 1972 for some trips to Asia, later on moved over finally to Japan in 1977.
At that time Europe was still divided into West and East and travel was not easy.
The so-called Iron Curtain finally disappeared after the German reunification in 1990.
To move at that time to other parts in Europe for longstay and doing a job? Not so easy as it is now within the European Union.
As a child to go from Austria in a youth group to Italy I still had to have my own passport and a visa from the Italian embassy in Vienna.
As a young man when I was 20 years old, I had to apply for a visa for Czechoslovakia at least 3 working days in advance and had to wait at the border, only 30 miles away from Vienna for an extensive search of my car and myself up to my underwear for both, entry and exit from East Europe.
Money change was another tricky issue. If you really could find a girl how to bring her out? You risked your life doing that, you might be shot at the border everywhere and not only between EastBerlin and WestBerlin.
After WWII ending 1945 all in my country was in poverty but occupation (in my area the Russian soldiers) finally left 1955, nobody there who survived was normal, including my psycho mother and my two older half-sisters. The Catholic Church did the rest, at least towards boys.
I was a nothing or below and had nothing except debts when I finally could move on.
The women in my area were more or less all bad, and the daughters learnt it from their mothers.
I never had a girlfriend in Europe, even not for 30 minutes.
European women are likely less dangerous, less toxic, less hateful against males than the typical US-girl. However there is very low morality and most girls have multiple boyfriends. Now my country is said to be full with Muslim male African immigrants who know how to please a woman - LOL.
I was always interested to leave Europe, which was really a crazy place at that time, and I only can say, that Japan - was always good to me.But if you're in Japan, then how can anywhere in Europe be worse? About Japanese people, they need time to open up. I would say not Japanese women, but Japanese men do not really like to talk to strangers - any stranger - you can hear the same complaints also among Japanese themselves when they have to move from their native place to somewhere else.
Rock, as far as I know about him, settled down in Taiwan and is moving between Philippines and Thailand. I think he is from USA and has no intention to move away from Asia.
In Japan, as rather long from North to South, and facing cold Korea to the West and the warm Pacific to the East climate is very different, depending where you are living. In the large cities, during August - the hottest and wet season up to 40 C - it is terrible, almost impossible to work anything or to drive a car without aircondition. What are Japan's seasons like? Since it's further north, it must be colder most of the time right? Does it ever get humid there? Is it insect infested in the nature areas? What about the Japanese Tea Gardens? Japan has many forests - I am also now after my retirement living in a green area, but I do not notice any problem with insects or bugs.
Compared to America..... this says it all. It must be better, as USA is really the worst of the worst. But maybe the situation is now better about women in Europe compared to 1975. I don't know, I never came back.

However when I meet people from Europe here in Japan, I cannot confirm that, especially not with females and their behavior. Europe is a strongly pro-feminist region.
BTW, my father moved also over to Japan when he was 80 years old, he had enough and preferred to relocate. He did in Japan 101 years old.
He always said only good things about Japan and never considered to move back to Europe.
How can Japan be better? For me it is just 'better' than before. - I feel safe here - no street criminality, people are honest, all members of my extended family are kind people, I never had any problem here...my Japanese wife also prefers to live in Japan, but our 2 daughters tried it out in USA and France - and came back to Japan a few years later. My Filipina fosterdaughter, now already 25, dreams every day to leave Philippines and to settle down in Japan...
-----
I have to admit, there are only a few people like myself coming from my native country and settled down here in Japan ...almost all of them are men, and totally they are not even 100 persons. All of them are older men now, me included with Japanese family. I did not notice many newcomers...
Japan is surely not a place which my countrymen choose for permanent residence.

Indeed. Indeed. I'm glad you understand why I call it the U.S. of Gay of Decadent Demise. I'm in the same boat as you except I'm in Mexico waiting until July-ish so I can come back and get my life back "right on track" like that 1987 Breakfast Club song.Contrarian Expatriate wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2020, 6:13 pmI happen to be stuck in Florida at the moment.
