Two Questions.

Post by zacb »

First is that I got my college paid for two years and I can get an Associates Degree in Economics. I was wondering should I stick around after that in order to earn my Bachelors in the US, or should I move abroad asap if I have the resources? Also, should I pursue my BA overseas?

Second question. I am still quite young (18 in a few weeks) and just graduated (homeschooled). I have used mostly online methods to find dates, and I have only had two dates, and they only lasted one date. So My question is that am I giving up too early, or should I start to shift my focus overseas? I should also mention I have some social impairments due to a disorder. So should I try to get women here or am I fighting an uphill battle? I don't want to be overreacting, but i it is only going to get worse before it gets ,better, I say screw it.

18 is pretty young..I say try the local scene before throwing in the towel BUT if you can get a BA overseas than go for that. I mean international studies may also be a benefit.

College would probably be best bet to meet people? I am going to a community college, and the town I live in is kind of small (12,000), and I am on multiple dating sites, but so far it seems like milfs (not my tastes), and so I am thinking about maybe testing out to see how the college bit goes. So do you think it would be best to finish college and see where it goes, then maybe look overseas?

And in regards to the milfs, I mean in terms of actual population on the sites, not the ones contacting me.

Welcome, and congratulations on completing high school.

I think some of the young guys here can tell you about dating prospects in a U.S. college.

My observation:
I'm sure you can get some dates, but
(1) it may or may not be with women you want
(2) you may have to learn a whole set of social skils ("game") to be in the... uh... game... here. May not be worth time if you plan to leave anyway.

Additional info you can provide that will help the other guys here advise you:
----What industry or profession do you want to be in? What kind of are you good at?
If you are interested in econ, are you thinking to be a trader, an analyst, a banker, a CPA, or what? Do you have a goal?

----What attracts you in a woman?

----What countries are you interested in or connected to? Any languages?

The career thing is kind of a loaded question. Honestly, I think economics is an interesting subject (especially from the Austrian perspective) and I find it to be more valuable than an MBA. I don't like managing other people, I actually like getting down to the business of business, and I believe economics overall is the closest you can get. I am kind of going in the entrepreneurial direction, but idk how that will go.I am aiming for an online business opportunity I tried that worked, but did not have a great model to contain costs. It worked well on a small scale, but if I could be as successful as I was before, I might have a nice little paycheck each month. (No MLM, it was my own idea. I am not trying to be hyped about it, but it worked pretty well before, so I am cautiously optimistic once I get the prep work done.) I am kind of interested in programming (online and off), finance (stocks and such), economics, and business in general. How that fits together, idk. I like trading stock, but I don't want to work on Wall Street per se. I lie more running my own show, more of a takeover firm or such. (obviously I don't have the capital, but that is my goal) I do know for certain however I want to do something revolutionary, shake up the status quo, not just for its own sake, but to change the way we look at things.

I am attracted to a women because of her outer beauty (not that I am picky), interests, intelligence, the "meshing" effect, wisdom, similarity in beliefs, entrepreneurialism, open mindedness, etc. The only thing is most of the women I like is on account of looks. To my knowledge, at least where I live, I have almost nothing in common. So while the looks part is easy to qualify, the rest is not. I guess it is kind of like someone else said "Myself, but with boobs". lol. I guess I just want someone I don't have to hide my beliefs or feelings with and can bounce stuff off of. So pretty much a really good friend, but maybe with some extra benefits.

I am thinking Macedonia at the current moment. I was thinking about Ukraine, but the thing with that is Ukraine may be prospering, but it seems kind of 3rd world. I can't speak honestly, but from my research it seems like there is a poverty mentality in that area. There is a lot of crime in terms of staling in that area and just stuff like that. But contrast that with Macedonia, and you can see it is a tad safer as far as stealing is concerned, cheaper, and closer to Western Europe, and seems more free market oriented to me. Idk, just seems like a better deal to me. Plus the colleges are dirt cheap from what I hear. I might eventually move to Ukraine though, mostly if I start a family (homeschooling is legal in Ukraine, not so in Macedonia). At the current moment I don't know anything but English, so I am starting with a blank slate. Also in regards to Macedonia, I have heard the people are very friendly, and that is important, since I suffer from a social disorder that makes it hard for me to make friends.

BTW thanks for the congrats, and the advice.

For me, the homeschooling bit says a lot. And I don't mean in terms of self-education. That, I agree with wholeheartedly.

In mainstream American culture, a lot of the HS behavior patterns, stick with western women their entire lives.

Thus, if you don't have that cue in, meaning some oddball situations during junior/senior years with the opposite gender, then you really don't *get* American women. For me, I started to see the sh*t, early on in life. So while college was more congenial and friendly, I wasn't at all fooled by the b*tches. Thus, after college circa age 24, I'd completely stopped dating AWs, 100%.

What do you mean says a lot per se? As far as how I act? I don't mean this in a hostile way, just kind of curious what you meant.

I find that kind of interesting. It seems like in any environment where you pack people together, it seems like they act like they are in HS. Prime example: medical facilities. People gossip about some of the stupidest things, people talk about who is doing what with who, etc. Or with the whole office politics. It seems the more you look at it, the more it seems like a social engineering experiment gone horribly wrong. I am not saying everyone from a public school is horrible, all I am saying is that it exacerbates societal problems more. Just my 2 cents.

Take a look at Chinese universities - some teach in English and you can get a business degree in a place where you can actually experience international business instead of just reading about it in books.

Oh, and they're really cheap as well, so don't fall into the trap of studying in the USA and getting $100,000 of debt before you've even worked a day in your life.
I was Happier Abroad for a while but Covid killed that off.

I know that career choice is a heavy thing to lay on someone 18 years old, but I figured as someone homeschooled you would be pretty mature, and be able to field the question - and I was right.

You're cut out to be a trader of some kind I think, and you can build up money doing that, with just your own judgement and analysis.

Easiest thing to trade while travelling will be forex futures, all you need is 500kbps uplink speed if you're daytrading, slower okay if you're swing trading (week to week). I suspect that will be available anywhere in the Baltics, probably Ukraine too. Maybe not a small villlage in Macedonia. Anyway, you don't have to be on Wall Street, and currency trading is simple and more suited for a lone wolf, and you can start with small dollars.

Trading is trading though, nothing to stop you from switching from currency to oil to stocks over the years.

Stock trading would help you do that takeover or buyout etc. down the road. But it seems like trading stocks would be easier to learn as an employee of a big or medium-size firm with access to all the tools you need. Wall Street type firm, but doesn't have to Goldman Sachs. And to get a job like that you do need a serious degree and good grades plus internships while in school. So that would mean go to college here where you speak the language - and really focus. If you can handle the serious econometrics and such, go for an econ degree that's heavy on microeconomics and quantitative stuff. Some math maybe, including calculus and statistics. And make friends with profs and see which one can help you get a good internship ASAP. That would be my suggestion.

However, theoreticaly, if you want to be on your own sooner, you could do so by trading currency futures or forex. No fundamentals to learn about each company's stock. Get into action sooner, and you don't need college really, although the quant courses will never hurt. But there are other ways to learn trading besides college. Online, etc. To do this just get a local hourly wage job earning 250$ a week or whatever, live at home and eat at home, that gives you $1000 a month to trade wth. Presto, you're in business. Three months practice and you can start trading with real money, a few hundred dollars at a time.

Sonds like Eastern Europe for sure.

Ukraine has it's problems but i think it would still be a better life than the U.S. But yes non-FSU Eastern Europe or Baltics will be better to raise a family. Slovenia, Slovakia, Montenegro and Czech Republic all allow homeschooling.
zacb wrote: Also in regards to Macedonia, I have heard the people are very friendly, and that is important, since I suffer from a social disorder that makes it hard for me to make friends.
Czechs aren't generally warm initially. Slovenians are very friendly and positive. I've only met two Slovaks, a little formal by American standards, but very bright and positive people. But after the U.S. I think anywhere in EE will seem like heaven. Everyone over there respects education and hard work, you will fit in better period.

You should take a backpacking trip through there on the first vacation from school, maybe next summer, Adriatic to Baltic. See where you feel at home.

And stay off the dating sites, yes they are all MILF's or second stringers. Attractive young girls don't go on U.S. dating sites, they don't have to. If you want to make travel friends I think Couchsurfing is for that. But start saving for a summer trip, that's the most important thing.

Good luck.

I am probably going to stick with stocks, since I have been trading them since I was 15, and I have a formula worked out. I also trade precious metals a tad, and own an etf for a major currency. For the year I have earned 15 percent, and have only made one major trading error, so I think I can do pretty well. So yeah I am thinking trading, and maybe to some online marketing.

In regards to online marketing, I have an idea that I tried before, and it worked just that the costs were kind of high. But I have found a way to deliver those items significantly cheaper than before, and I could make a nice chunk money. Last time I did it, I earned like 20 dollars a month from like 5 items, and this time around I have over 1 thousand items, and even with a conservative estimate of 3%, I could pull in some nice sales numbers. This is what I am working on right now, and am probably going to use as my income if I move.

Honestly I am thinking of moving to Bitola, since it is relatively inexpensive compared to the capital, and it is close to Greece and Turkey if I ever get bored. And it is kind of small, which has its perks.

In regards to college, believe you could attend a whole year in Macedonia for like 295 Euros, and a private university for like 2000 a year. Still relatively inexpensive. So as far as education, I am deeply considering it. The only problem is getting certain family members on board to the idea.

But yeah I like the idea overall. And regards with China, from my understanding, the quality of life, while not the worse, is not the best either. And while cheaper than most US cities, I am kind of aiming for quality of life, and not merely business, (although I do plan on maybe opening a business offline eventually) And so for the price I living in China, I could save up and build wealth a lot easier, since the minimum is probably 1,500 in the US if you are lucky. And in Macedonia, you could live at least ok for like 400. So assuming my expenses are covered, and I open another little online niche, I could use that money to either invest, or save up and build wealth.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I guess my meaning of *a lot* is a bit loaded. What I read is that you tend to think, not like someone of your age bracket but more like a person, basically in the world [at large], not constricted by linear or *track* oriented thinking. So let's say you take a type of HS top honors student (or Philips-Exeter Academy type): all A's, near perfect SATs (plays LaCrosse  ), instead of being a free agent, he's more likely to be asking questions, to someone like me, about undergrad internships at Petrochemical companies, Biotech initiatives, PreMed/heath clinics, Patent Law offices, etc.

Also, not being around a cadre of lame, high school-ish girls, who more or less gossip and play mind games all day long, it frees you to not behave like a lot of teenage men that I used to run into. And that's a good thing. :) Now, instead of having your formative years, ages 18 to 25, damaged by nasty b*tches, you can actually have some fun and be able to explore more. For me, this started at the age of 24, when I first traveled outside the country. I'm in my mid-30s today and haven't dated an AW in over a decade.

Please tell me that you're also trading stock options in addition to regular stocks.

Actually, I am not trading options. But in addition to two individual stocks (ms, udrl), I have the VXX (bad idea, switching to short etf of S&P 500), and a Yuan bond fund. I plan on adding a high dividend payer here within the week. It yields 20% and is a fast grower in the Asian region. (UETMF) It operated resorts with Wyn Resorts in Asia. In addition, I have some precious metals stashed away. So I think I am well diversified. But that is kind of off topic.

In this case it seems that college over there will work.

Once you have your income in place, your family sees you practicing the language and packing your bags, they will get on board.

Post some pics when you get there.
