Tying up lose ends? What to do?

So I'm now in the process of relocating and my apartment is now up in craigslist.

What are something that I need to think about when relocating? What should I do?

Gotta make this as smooth as possible.

well i don't have much experience in this field. But back in 2011 i decided to leave the country and went to central america for 3 months, with the hope of finding happiness.

Here is some stuff that I did to prepare:
1. No financial obligations such as debt, etc.
1a. Assign someone to check up on your mail, etc. For me, I had setup a mailbox with UPS so all my main would go there and my brother would check for me, I even got him to deposit cheques for me.
2. Get rid of stuff you dont need such as cars, etc.
3. share your travel plans with trusted family and friends
4. have a backup copy of your documents, bank cards, etc with you and leave it with someone else too.
5. wherever you are going, exchange some money in your home country
6. checking email, bank accounts, etc. because i personally wasn't comfortable using computers in a 3rd world country, i bought an Ironkey (a more secured USB) put all my logins and passwords on it. So all i did was put in the USB, and to login to any website i needed, i just click the login button and i am in without need to manually entering the info and hoping no keylogging software was on the computer.

Most important is, have a plan to support yourself if you want to relocate and live there.
One great thing I did was to learn spanish, i signed up in a language school, lived with a local family, met other travelers, and got tips from the local area along with travel tips within the country. Simply put, make friends wherever you will be living.

Buy a decent laptop - my Samsung Ultrabook is pretty neat, even if it is way cheaper to buy one here in Thailand.

Get a good mobile with multi-lingual support.

Take a couple of bank cards because getting money out has been a major hassle. And tell your bank(s) where you're going!

Just to piggyback on this: make sure your bank card has a Visa, Mastercard, etc logo.....and look for more commercial banks.

I had MAJOR issues with this in my limited time in Thailand.

If your about to retire in another country you can max out 10 credit cards before you leave home provided you don't plan on coming back.

I would put Portable Apps on a fairly speedy USB 2.0 drive. Just go to New Egg and look up 4-8GB drives that are fairly fast.

Sell most of what you don't need. If you live alone, sell it all, if you can store what you wanna keep with your parents then great, otherwise sell it.

I live at home, not an issue...

I used a GreenDot Pre-paid Mastercard and it worked in every ATM I tried it in. I also used a then a Washington Mutual Debt card while in Germany and was even allowed to overdraft.

I would take enough clothes for 14 days, depending on where you're going clothes can be very expensive in some countries due to import taxes and tariffs. A laptop, I got this Asus quad core for $360 after taxes. Get an unlocked smartphone. You can get one of these pre-paid ATT or TMO GSM Android phones. Purchase the unlock code for it and enjoy it overseas to get around (Google Maps).
