On the Market for a new computer: MacBook versions?

I was leaning towards a 4GB MBP 13" retina, but now seriously wondering if it's worth the extra few hundred to get an 8GB RAM? Beyond surfing/emailing and word/stat documentation, I'm a little into audio recording/turntable/vinyl music stuff (nothing too super-pro, but I'd like to make my own vocal/guitar mix demos and hook up to my receiver/turntable/cd player). I also do a bit of photography/image editing, and I want to use language softwares like rosetta stone.

From what I've gathered, a 4GB RAM is more than enough for many people, unless you're a super multitasker, into video editing, etc. I haven't bought a new computer since 2006, so I'm likely to hold onto my new investment for quite some time. Is it worth the upgrade to 8GB or would a new 4GB MBP retina 13" be sufficient for the job?

For current MacBook Pro Retina versions, your choice is 8 or 16 GBs of RAM. There is no 4 GB option unless if you're buying old or used stock.

The non-retina display MacBook Pro has 4 or 8 GB RAM option.

If you want to get into audio/video editing, more memory is better. I use Camtasia.

I was in San Francisco a couple months ago, bought the mid-range 13" Pro model at Stockton store, then exchanged it for the enhanced model days later after the upgrades were announced. I think 8GB is now the lowest memory option after upgrades. Go for it, works like a dream. Thanks to solid state HD, seems like absolutely no lag time except for delays when using slower Internet.

You might still be able to buy the older models and get $100-200 off. But why not just get the upgrades. If you go for the student option (easy to get if you talk to one of the more easygoing associates), you not only get the discount but also a $100 gift card which you can use to buy a nice case or whatever else you might need there.

I have the 2012 Retina 15" 2.6Ghz, 16gb memory and 250gb hd. I have had it for almost 2 years now and it works like a dream, only thing is the battery is starting to not hold a charge so I will have to take it in for that.

Most important question is what will you be using your computer for?

What about hd memory? 128 or 256 GB?

Also, have any of guys heard of MacMall.com? They're apparently offering free shipping and no tax, that alone would be a bargain. Amazon I believe also offers free shipping.

Is it necessary to get any of the warranty deals? Amazon offers 3-year spill warranties for an extra $100, otherwise I assume these 2nd-hand dealers probably don't offer all the warranty that comes when you buy direct from Apple?
