Much of this post will be a repeat of a previous one ("white worshiping"), but WHY do so many people think I am mixed and not pure Chinese? Are they simply telling blatant lies to make my mom happy?

My mom's skin is unaturally pale for a Chinese. She has fairly deep set eyes, her hair is quite curly. Her father (my maternal grandfather) has grey eyes, and all of his relatives have grey eyes too. I've seen a photo of one of them (long deceased) and she does look a little un-Chinese or Asian.

She loves to buy Chanel, and a Ukrainian saleswoman at the Chanel store here in Vancouver believes that they come from the same lineage. The Ukrainian woman got a woman from HK, a "pure" Chinese to stand beside Carolina.

There was a legend that in ancient/medieval times ... the families of the last Emperor of Zoroastrian Persia, the collapsing Sassanid Empire, fled to China along with many others, to escape from the Islamic invasions. And while many did settle in central Asia, part of the former USSR (all of the *Stans), as well as Russia, a number of others set up shop in China, with the hope of someday reclaiming their original lands with the help of the Tang Dynasty, which of course, never happened. And so over time, these easternmost white ppl eventually integrated with the mainstay Chinese population, dissolving out the Sassanid Persian govt diaspora in exile.

Here's the problem, that ancient Persian Empire, esp during its decline, did not keep many records and thus, associating today's world with that time period, involves archaeologist digging through ruins and so forth.

Plus, the invasion of the Islamicized Arabs, changed the profile of the modern day Persians, from a group of ppl who're basically eastern European, into a middle eastern culture, and those outside of that converted fold, got integrated into other nation-states. I believe today, there are still Zoroastrian diasporas, living in India, Central Asia, bits of Iran, and the western world. Their numbers are dwindling and will probably be gone in a few generations but it's interesting to note that certain remnants persisted for a millennia.

Those who probably came to China, had no reason to maintain that culture, after a few generations, once it became obvious that the old Persian Empire would never come back. I suspect that some of the so-called Chinese "whites", are of Persian descent.

Bao3niang, can I ask you a question, why do you care, whether or not you have some ancient Persian (or some other white) ethnic background?

Are you planning on fighting for some Zoroastrian cause, to restore the ancient faith or some other lost cause?

Perhaps it's better to focus on the future than on some ancestors from a lost nation.

Andrew, it's your friend Richard here. I have to agree with Zboy and from your pictures I could sense a subtle Middle Eastern ancestry perhaps some time in the (distant?) past. However, your eyes (just like mine) can't be mistaken for anything other than East Asian.
