Where is all the toilet paper?
Where is all the toilet paper?
If you went to the stores and couldn't find toilet paper, the toilet paper is in my basement. My wife stocked up on supplies in case the government decides to lock down everything and not let us shop, or in case the stores run out due to a run on supplies.
This is like an economic bubble where people invest because other people are driving the price to an unrealistically high level. Rational people can participate in irrational bubbles. People run to the store to buy stuff because when stuff like this happens other people run to the store to buy stuff. It's like the bread and milk disappearing from the shelves in the deep south when there is going to be a quarter inch of snow.
I'm glad I gave my wife the go-ahead to stock up. I was buying something at Walmart a few days ago, and my wife called and asked me to pick up some toilet paper for a friend, and it was really slim pickens. We've probably got a couple of months' supply, and if things calm down, we can still use it and pay less for groceries and supplies for a couple of months. I planted some green leafy vegetables today in the garden so we'll have lettuce, spinach, and kale if we are on lock down, and if we aren't, I like to have fresh vegetables in the garden anyway. If I had to, I could hack my way down to the bottom of the hill to a creek that runs out of an unappetizing stream on the other side of our neighborhood. Maybe I should invest more in water filtration, just in case. Maybe we should stock up on gas cans for our portable little gas stove and get another gas tank for the grill, just in case.
My wife delayed a but on hand sanitizer. I hardly ever use that goo, anyway, and it has probably only been around a couple of decades. I saw some of them at Dollar Tree and bought about 8 of them. I usually wash my hands. My wife bought a couple of bottles of peroxide. I'll use that to sanitize my hands and my toothbrush. I probably should have bought some rubbing alcohol before Walmart ran out of it.
Have you guys prepped up? If you are out of toilet paper, you can always convert to water and be like much of the world. If you do that, forget using hand sanitizer. Go get some soap at Walmart before they run out of that, too.

What would happen if Americans were forced to undergo food rationing like what happens in warzones?
I don't think they're even capable of reducing their food consumption in times of crisis, I imagine people still eating lasagna dinners when there's only a couple rolls of toilet paper left for their whole obese family. And once that goes that's it, they're goners.

Re: Where is all the toilet paper?
Prepped up? See, I think like a Frenchman, or an Indian from the Asian sub-continent, or as a Asian from SE Asia: bidet showers!!!! Or take baths (yes it costs on the water bill to fill up a tub every time) but scientific studies say that bidet showers (or "bum guns" as the Aussie and British expats in Thailand call it) are significantly more effective than toilet paper alone. I hardly use toilet paper because I don't like to take public sh.its unless the place is uber-clean which is rare in 90 percent of American public places (especially now that homelessness is still high even in Trump's America - a lot of them sh.it up public toilets hence why cities like Chicago and NYC loathe that and put "For Paying Customers Only" signs on bathroom doors. I use Queens English to bypass such classist Orwellian rule like that when I was f.cuked and homeless many years ago). Therefore, when I get home, I take a shower or bath after I s.hit. "S.have, S.hit, S.hower" as the ol' adage goes.
So maybe this will usher in the renaissance of bidet showerhead guns hooked up to the clean part of the water lining that runs before it refills the toilet in the U.S. of Gay....and tossing salad Stateside will become less taboo than ever.

Re: Where is all the toilet paper?
We use only a very little amount of toilet paper in Japan, no problem with supply, stores sell it everywhere 24 h. Many Japanese are using full automatic washlets in their home, but now washlets are almost in every restroom - in convenience stores, railway stations, department stores, restaurants, hotels etc.
There are also plenty of delivery services in all Japan, any kind of items you might need while staying at home for a while without going out. No need to stock anything.

Washlets seem so similar to bidets.Yohan wrote: ↑March 13th, 2020, 10:06 pmWe use only a very little amount of toilet paper in Japan, no problem with supply, stores sell it everywhere 24 h. Re: Where is all the toilet paper?
There are many kind of washlets in Japan for sale. Japanese are obsessed with a strange kind of 'restroom culture', which is really a good thing, keep it clean and comfortable. In Japan 'restroom' is a big business. There are still in rural areas and old public restrooms some uncomfortable squat types, but they disappear more and more, replaced with entire new units.
Such washlet units are confortable for the elderly and their caretakers. In Japan are many old people living.
Take a look to the English homepage of the Japanese TOTO washlet producer...
https://www.toto.com/en/wtjapan/exp/index.htm
Some Japanese washlets are simple and cheap, just washing your behind....and this is it. You still need a little bit of toilet paper for drying.
Some other models, the expensive ones, are very advanced with many options, switching on light and ventilator when entering the restroom, playing music, open and close the toilet cover, starting heating during wintertime, will dry your wet behind similar operating like a hair dryer, will automatic flush when sitting down and when leaving and flush even during doing your time to clean up everything which might be in the toilet bowl, adding sanitizer to the water during flush, offering water massage etc....
With the best models you need not to touch anything with your hands. You really don't need toilet paper at all.
Re: Where is all the toilet paper?
Americans need to stock up on food and water, toilet paper is not as important as staying fed and having clean water to drink.

I don't quite know what they are thinking of. Toilet paper here is not exactly in short supply but the shelves are fairly bare compared to the norm. Clearly there is panic buying and if you want your favourite brand you might be out of luck. Perhaps they plan to use it as currency or something.

Someone on Facebook was selling a freezer for 10K. I offered a roll of TP in exchange.Cornfed wrote: ↑March 16th, 2020, 2:19 amI don't quite know what they are thinking of. A few weeks back he started that thread about homosexuals, now toilet paper. Obviously a fixation on the anus...

Re: Where is all the toilet paper?
PEOPLE WANT TOILET PAPER BECAUSE THEY NOW REALIZE THEIR WORLD HAS GONE TO SHIIT!
Businesses are closing, stocks have wiped out trillions of dollars of wealth, and mass hysteria is full tilt. Their world is one giant shiitstorm and people feel they need toilet paper to smear it all about!
"Own your SHIIT!" is the mantra of the day.

It is really strange for me to see how people in USA are going shopping now, it seems they buy all and everything.
However it is really difficult for me to imagine that USA cannot provide enough items, including toilet paper to its citizens.
If some stores are empty, it is only a question of a day or so until the next delivery is arriving from a warehouse.
This is USA - and not Venezuela or Zimbabwe....

Correct because I was at a Walgreen's last night and they said there will be in a restock of products that sold out: canned food, hand sanitizer, bleach...yet the police will still pulling people over like normal.Yohan wrote: ↑March 16th, 2020, 11:25 amhttps://www.yahoo.com/news/desolate-sto ... 16228.html

Re: Where is all the toilet paper?
We've got probably 6-8 months worth of staples in our basement (toilet paper, soap, shampoo, paper towels, etc.), about a year of over-the-counter medicine, a good supply of stuff like hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, disinfectant, and a small collection of masks.MrMan wrote: ↑March 13th, 2020, 7:42 pmIf you went to the stores and couldn't find toilet paper, the toilet paper is in my basement. We have about 3 weeks worth of "good food" (meat, vegetables, etc.) and another 3 weeks of emergency food (beans, rice, peanut butter, pureed fruits, pasta and so on that doesn't require cooking).
