booking.com weird check in times

Post by lightningbolto »

so i decided to start using booking again. this time i am in a city of a foreign country where their hours for check in are random. 4 pm or 6 pm or 3 pm. but the check out time is ALWAYS 12 pm. so this confused me since my home country i'ts always 12 pm check in and 12 pm check out.

in fact i just recently had a host tell me " we told you the check in is at 3pm. so why are you here at 12pm now." that got me angry so i told him calmly. "i don't like how you're talking to me." because i checked out of a hotel for 12 pm but all the rest of them have random late hours to check in. great now i am stuck at a starbucks typing this. which would be a headache if i had to do this over and over again.

No, they are not Booking.com check in times. They are each individual properties' check in time.

The hotel has to have time to clean your room. They can not have one guest check out at 12pm and another check in at 12pm. They need time to clean your room.

On the other hand I have arrived early and since some properties had a room already ready they let me check in early.

What would I do, what have I done when I arrive before my check in time?

Sometimes the hotel has a restaurant or cafe. Depending on the time you can order breakfast or lunch. You can chill there.

Better yet, most hotels have lounge areas where you are welcome to wait until your room is ready. Get yourself a few beverages and relax. Usually they will give you a room when one becomes available just to get you out of the lounge area.

So other countries hotels operate at 100% capacity?

No, but they need this time to make sure the room is prepared. (12pm checkout, 2pm-3pm check in).

As I said if a room is available earlier they will usually let you check in.

I recall having to wait for check-in at a reasonably-priced hotel in Singapore, not one of the fancier ones, but okay. They allowed me to leave my bag somewhere, probably behind the counter, to wonder about freely until check-in. It may be a good alternative if you do not have any valuables in your bag. I probably took my computer with me and anything else I thought someone else might be interested in. But Singapore boasts a low crime rate in recent decades.
