@Cornfed Did you feel any of the tremors?
I googled it and it told me it was in a place about 2.5 hours south of Mexico City.
At first I thought it was someone in the room next to mine having so much sex in their bed, their wall was shaking stuff in my room.
Then my bed started shaking and I thought WTF!? Is it actually someone in another house whose room in their home shares a wall with my room?
Then I felt more things begin to shake and thought it was someone on the second floor doing something.
But then even the doors started to shake and shake as in move. The one to the bathroom was opening and closing.
I realized then it was an earthquake.
The earthquake was in the Huitzuco area of Mexico.

I remember feeling an earthquake for the first time when I was a kid.
Later, as an adult in Jakarta, I was in the office on the fifth floor. Someone said, does it feel like things are moving. Something hanging by a string from the ceiling was moving. We all walked down the stairs until it ended.
So, later that week, I tapped the thing hanging from the ceiling and asked a co-worker, does it feel like everything is moving. She got up, ready to go out for another earthquake.

Here in all Japan, regardless where you are living, you can feel earthquakes almost every month, sometimes every 2 weeks or so. Just yesterday was one not so far away from my home.
Earthquake is here not really the problem - the real danger is fire - and flood, if the earthquake is outside in the open sea. Waves can be deadly, up to 15 meters or even higher. Landslides can be devastating too, if an earthquake occurs during heavy rain in rural mountainous regions.
Most modern building structures in Japan can withstand even strong earthquakes without serious damage, but in higher floors there is a frightening swinging you can feel.
Small new houses made of wood and constructed by new strict building standard especially regarding the fundament of the building are also able to withstand earthquakes, wood does not break easily.
List of all registered earthquakes in Japan, there is no day without earthquake, you feel them if they are above 4 or 5 of the Japanese scale.
A lot of volcanic activity, often causing earthquakes.
