Every time you go to a shopping mall, a store, a restaurant, a bar, or a nightclub, you think; it's public use property, it's open to the public, and you can do just about anything as long as you're not hurting other people or destroying the property.

Not in America.

Videotaping and photography is a popular hobby with a lot of people, especially tourists. But I am sure many foreign tourists have learned the hard way that videotaping and photography is strictly prohibited at just about all American public-use facilities. In America, you can not videotape at shopping malls, you can not videotape at stores, including department stores, you can not videotape at restaurants, bars, or nightclubs. You can not even videotape if you're videotaping for example a severe thunderstorm, tornado, car crash, a brawl, or anything out of the ordinary. Doing so will get you ejected from the premises as, in America, such facilities are actually considered private property, not public property as most claim.
