Would your parents have preferred you get lap dances at strip clubs or have hookups with random women?

When I was in college, my parents told me "I'd much rather you go to strip clubs then be running around trying to mess with random girls." They told me that going to strip clubs was understandable if you have no girlfriend because it provides a sense of intimacy even if its not as good as the real thing, but that hooking up with random women was shameful. But ultimately, strip clubs are supposed to be a needs based thing. A man with no girlfriend could be driven insane by sexual frustration so we have strip clubs or brothels so that single men have somewhere to go to get their needs met.

Liberals usually see strip clubs as something to co-exist alongside hookup culture. Liberals advocating for prostitution see it as aligning with their general mentality of "let everybody do whatever they want" whereas all traditionalists I've met who are in favor of prostitution explicitly say that prostitution is intended to completely replace hookup culture. The reason for its existence is to ensure that hookup culture won't exist by killing the demand for quick, instant sex. Thereby, long term relationships are not threatened by hookup culture, and most women remain marriageable, but single men have a place to go if they're sexually frustrated.

What about y'alls parents when you were growing up? Do you think your parents would've preferred you go to a strip club or have a one night stand?

Your parents advice is quite unusual. Not to say this is a bad thing but its not common. My father just told me to: "get girls, but don't get any of them pregnant until you finish your studies."

He told me he had his share of hookups back in the day. A six foot three former military officer, he was a total Chad of the boomer generation, I would have expected nothing less. My mother never discussed such matters with me but would have probably considered both hookups and strippers as tacky and disapproved of both.

Because lets face it, to any ACTUALLY conservative person, a guy going to a strip club IS kinda tacky, isn't it? So I'm a bit surprised by your mother actually advocating that lol.

I don't feel like being conservative necessitates having a certain position on prostitution. Some of the most ultra-conservative societies in history still had easily available prostitution whether we're talking about Medieval and Renaissance Europe, Victorian England, traditional Japan (and modern Japan). Asian countries have always had legal prostitution.

At the same time, Islamic societies are very strict about banning it. But they're the only ones really. I think modern, mainstream conservatives in America only oppose prostitution because our current society in general does. 100 years, when prostitution was first starting to get criminalized though, conservatives were arguing that criminalizing prostitution was a threat to family values because of the same reasons I mentioned... Criminalizing prostitution promotes seduction culture and horny young men will try to seduce young girls and other men's wives.

How does that even come up? Most people of my parents' generation and older tend to have somewhat of a "don't ask, don't tell" policy when it comes to their children's sex lives. The only distinction between liberal and more conservative parents being that the more 'modern' parents would say: "Do it safely!" and the more old-fashioned ones: "Don't do it!"

I've never heard of any parents sitting down their boy and going: "Son, if you're feeling a little frisky and you want to get some, but you don't have a girlfriend? Please don't have a one-night stand, or fornicate with a whore... just be a good fellow and go to a strip club to get some lady of the night to bounce on your naughty place."

Well I was homeschooled growing up and when you are homeschooled, you and your parents talk a lot. When you are 13 or 14 or so you’re gonna have a lot of questions. And I can’t just not know things . I’m stunned by how many people say they struggle to talk to their kids or parents about such and such topics.
