Do You Feel Spiritually Connected to Other Nations?
Maybe I am just uber in love with Colombia, but at this point it is not just their women that enamor me. The more I read about them their basic ethnography speaks to me. I am not saying it is perfect (clotshot, lack of 2nd amendment, and taxes in general), but with small things like favorable homeschooling laws, rap crap is not predominate (rock still seems to have a foothold), things being cheap, and even in the US I feel like they are lost kinsmen more than any European (they have been some of the nicest people I have met and seem like they have more of a culture than the US). To sumarise it is like if the US never took a turn or the worse on 2008 (and 2001).
Maybe it is a honeymoon phase, but I have been to Colombia 7 or 8 times since 2016 and it seems like there is always something different or interesting, especially in Bogota. Even the food appeals to me. I just don't know how to explain it except it feels like my adopted culture. Also it helps you are not chastised for being white.
Having said that for citizenship in Paraguay seems great for being a hq, Colombia for living, and Chile for investing.

Yes, absolutely! I feel spiritually connected to Colombia too.zacb wrote: ↑March 7th, 2023, 3:32 pmMaybe I am just uber in love with Colombia, but at this point it is not just their women that enamor me. Just like you, I also love Colombia for more than just the women, even though I do believe that Colombian women are the absolute hottest in the world. I am enamored with the Colombian people who are by and large the friendliest Latinos I've met, I am obsessed with the Spanish language and regard Colombian Spanish as one of the most pleasant varieties thereof, I am fascinated with the beautiful cities and towns of the Colombian highlands with their enchanting colonial architecture, I am mesmerized by the stunning beauty of the Colombian countryside with its lush exotic vegetation, I've grown fond of Colombian cumbia and other genres of music, and the country's great diversity of cultures from the Caribbean culture of the north to the Andean culture of the center and south completely stirs my lust for adventure. I've been researching Colombia for a while now and the country just seems magical.
I've also always felt a similar spiritual connection to Spain and Southern Europe in general but now I'm starting to become even more fascinated with Colombia.
Conversely, I've always felt a spiritual disconnect with my native country of the UK. I feel a strong and almost pathological aversion towards British culture, find the country's aesthetics extremely ugly, don't like the language (i.e., British English), and don't fit in with British people. I feel like a stranger in my own country. I resent that fact that I was born there.
In my experience, Latin America has a completely different vibe to anywhere in Europe or the so-called "West". It feels like a completely different time, like somewhere between the 80s and early 2000s. At least that's the subjective perception that I have.

I feel spiritually connected to Ancient Athens. I would love to meet Aristophanes.

I know some of my examples seemed weird, but even walking into a bar in a medium sized town and hearing rock being blared just is comforting. I am not trying to say a nation's job is to make me happy but I always feel that way in Colombia. This might be sacrilegious to some, but I even heard about a heavy metal church in Bogota! I am not saying it is good or bad, but Colombia can still surprise you without horrifying you, if that makes sense. Even getting an alcohol license or doing simple things are not a hour like in the US. Heck, when the US was cracking down on piracetam, I could get it over the counter in a pharmacy. Even since I went in December they put up vending machines in El dorado airport. I think the excellence plus low cost makes it feel like how things were between the 80's and 2000's. Also it is interesting how 30% of kids go to private schools, there is no gas tax, there are no forced vaccinations at birth, and from George Gammon he said the central bank is actually pretty conservative.Lucas88 wrote: ↑March 7th, 2023, 4:31 pmYes, absolutely! As far as Bogota, it reminds me of how NYC was before Bloomberg and de Blasio. Lots of mom and pop shops. Even in my gf's town there is stuff open until 10 and some places like pharmacies open 24/7, which is kinda bizarre as more places in the US close early. I would almost say Colombia is a bit more convenient in some aspects!
This isn't to bash other countries and places I have been to! Canada 10 years ago was nice, Panama used to seem business friendly, Mexico is a budget Colombia except maybe Mexico city, and Belize was nice but might be a bit overpriced. In the US Fort Lauderdale and San Diego (when I was alone) were nice cities and Boston was an honorable mention. But outside those two cities in the US, I have never felt as chill as I did in Bogota. I do want to scout out Fort Meyers as it seems cozy but my job has me stuck on the West Coast for now.
Overall though it just seems like Colombia has excellence on it's mind. Further in terms of future orientation, Colombia is like one or two spots down from the US. It makes it seems like they could overtake them soon. But whether it is the weather, unique products of Colombia, the affordability, or general permissiveness, I think it is a good lifestyle flag at least. I have debated about building up more income or buying properties, but I think I am going to put more money into Colombia/Paraguay/Chile, with an emphasis on getting a place in Colombia asap.

Re: Do You Feel Spiritually Connected to Other Nations?
Also to add to that when I watched the bailouts on tv I knew it was game over. From 2008 to 2012 I did try to fit in as a kid, but then 2012 to 2016 I kept getting things to confirm that things were amiss. I feel with internet culture being dead, video games being dead, and many other things and subcultures in the US being coopted, it seems like travel is the only option. Also in the US homogenization of cities, everything but a 7/11 being closed after 10 (my friends and I used to go to Walmart for fun and when we were a bit stoned and even in small town America we had places open 24/7), the replacement of culture with money laundering schemes, financial markets are being gutted (one last thing that did not suck about the US, but no, let's gut the last bit of financial privacy and financial freedom), and people don't know how to have fun anymore.
When I say at a bar and had only 2 beers and was done, I realized that I had forgot to enjoy the simple things. Instead of worrying about the simple things, I worry about things like inflation, the erosion of our civil liberties, and paying taxes for nothing. However. I have had more of those enjoyable experiences in Colombia than elsewhere and despite wanting to travel more to make sure, I think Colombia is still high on my list. I will admit it is probably more of a South American thing than just Colombia.

I like Spain and Italy.
. Of course their society isn't perfect, but at least they match my personality.
Strangely I like Japan too.

I agree, if many people even in HA likes Japan then Japan must be a decent country despite their social problems and downsides.zacb wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 8:41 amI think many people here would like Japan, myself included.Natural_Born_Cynic wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 8:13 amI like Spain and Italy.. I never had problems with the Japanese either. Much more problems and personality conflict with Koreans. They can be real pain.

I do worry with Globohomo clamping down on Japan. But it has been resistant so far.
