I doubt it. The NZ SAS is a pretty good unit of what is otherwise a joke military, but I doubt they would diss the Indonesians like that. It isn't the 90s any more. Maybe if the Indonesians told them to.

IMO, that's a strange stance to state. When I was in Indonesia, I met a pilot, Aussie I think, who was flying one of those little planes that landed on water when I road in to go to an island. There were apparently a lack of local pilots who could do that.

On Papua, some of the foreign pilots, the last I heard, were from Christian ministries flying Bible's around. I hear a lot of local Papuans like western missionaries who converted many of them to Christianity (or the last generation of them did) and help them with development, but don't like the Islamic settlers from Java and elsewhere coming in and filling up their island. A lot of the tribesmen were living in the stone age a generation ago, and some still are.

If the stance is 'no foreign pilots', are they going to make an exception for missionaries delivering Bibles and supplies.

I was thinking of getting my pilots license and flying in Indonesia, but now I'm not planning on doing that around West Papua.

The North Sentinel island is fascinating. They haven't had contact with the outside world for hundreds of years and immediately kill anyone who tries to come to their island.

I remember reading that news story when it happened and just laughing that a 26 year old guy from Alabama was under the delusion that he would land on the island and they would just welcome him with open arms and all sit around cook barbecue and talk about the Bible.

I think one article said they tied a rope around his neck and dragged through the sand. I don't think his body was ever found. Poor guy.

I wonder what version of the Bible he was reading to make him do that? King James? NIV?

Now that you've got my imagination turning the gears in my sick and twisted mind, I was thinking of having some live stream where a rich guy offers a huge million dollar reward for dropping in 5 commandos onto the island with only basic weapons and whoever survives on the island gets the prize money. They'd have body cams on them filming the action.

I just thought of that because that movie Death Race was on in my room the other day.

I don't think 5 commandos with basic weapons will be enough to decimate a tribe of people. You have to give them miniguns, flame throwers, and six pod rocket launchers and tell them to mow down anything that moves because the North Sentinelese are hostile to any foreigners anyway.

Yeah, geographically they don't have anything interesting for the western powers or even India. If there is oil and precious minerals found then they will be promptly napalmed and have the Chinese or the U.S will set up a military base there.
