A Memorial Thread: Remembering Ghost
It's been along time since anyone on the forum has mentioned anything about @Ghost.
I thought that the older members of the forum should share what they remember about a former member of the forum community.
Where did he like to travel?
What were his interests?
Why did he want to leave America?
Did he succeed in finding what he was looking for abroad?
Is he still alive?
@Winston @gsjackson @Cornfed @publicduende @MarcosZeitola

Re: A Memorial Thread: Remembering Ghost
Don't know if he's kept up this blog. I bought his e-book when he last showed up here a few years ago. I think shit bosses hastened his withdrawal from the good ol USA.

Re: A Memorial Thread: Remembering Ghost
That's bad taste. Isn't a memorial supposed to be when someone dies?
Re: A Memorial Thread: Remembering Ghost
Maybe a general missing member thread is called for.
Re: A Memorial Thread: Remembering Ghost
Either Yick actually threatened to doxx him or Ghost misinterpreted Yick. Either way, he freaked out and deleted all his posts before leaving.

A memorial can also be for a living person or someone MIA whose status is unknown.publicduende wrote: ↑February 3rd, 2023, 5:36 pmThat's bad taste. Isn't a memorial supposed to be when someone dies?

Re: A Memorial Thread: Remembering Ghost
According to whatever dictionary Google uses:
Memorial: something, especially a structure, established to remind people of a person or event.
It doesn't specify that the person or event needs to be dead. The only requirement is that it's established to remind people of someone or something.

Pardon, I only saw the word used in the context of remembering the dead.Tsar wrote: ↑February 3rd, 2023, 11:53 pmA memorial can also be for a living person or someone MIA whose status is unknown.publicduende wrote: ↑February 3rd, 2023, 5:36 pmThat's bad taste. Anyway @Ghost is definitely not dead. Why don't we encourage him to be back with some more news about his life, whereabouts, romance, etc.?

My recollection is that Yick tried to doxx him -- unsuccessfully. It was a completely different person. And yeah, I believe that was the proximate cause of Ghost's departure.

Re: A Memorial Thread: Remembering Ghost
I was genuinely shook by @Jester's death almost a year ago, and so was @eurobrat, who also met him in person several times and shared a few convos with him.MarcosZeitola wrote: ↑February 4th, 2023, 5:21 amYeah he never actually got doxed. But the fact that someone even tried to do it is already f***ed up. Like why would people even do that shit? It's not like @Ghost was a harmful poster. He seemed like a perfectly reasonable bloke. We had some disagreements in the past but honestly a lot of the things he said before, I later came to agree with somewhat. Kind of miss his presence on the forum. I hope wherever he is, he's doing alright.
And hey @Tsar lets not make thread titles like that anymore.I was legit scared for a second that the guy had died, especially since Jester died last year and @publicduende made a memorial thread of him.
That HA members, even prolific ones, choose to stop posting for a while, only to be back after a few months or a few years, it's only normal. None of us is a professional writer and none of us has a commitment with @Winston to write n lines of contents every m days. It's all best effort, for pleasure, convenience, necessity, even.
Just let's leave @Ghost alone. If he feels like he has something interesting to write or reply to, he will certainly be back.

Re: A Memorial Thread: Remembering Ghost
Maybe I should have chosen a different title but I was thinking of something catchy and that's what came to me. I'll be sure to choose titles that can't be misinterpreted. I went with the first title that came to me at the time.MarcosZeitola wrote: ↑February 4th, 2023, 5:21 amAnd hey @Tsar lets not make thread titles like that anymore.
Would "Recollection" have been better than Memorial?

@Ghost was really interesting. Actually @Falcon no longer talks to me (for some reason).
I think I exchanged a few messages with Ghost a few years ago. We should have done more together, and it was a shame that I never met him irl. I've met quite a few forum members.
@eurobrat introduced me to @Jester and I did once talk to him on the phone while I was living in Berlin.
I just hope everybody is OK. A couple of weeks ago my uncle threw himself off a cliff (true story). Maybe all the contrails or 5G signals the WEF put out are aimed at reducing the population of serfs. Be careful out there guys... your worst enemy is always yourself.
My own happier abroad story died, with covid being the final nail in the coffin. I just did not forsee that both my TEFL career and IT career would be killed off at the same time. Now I have too much baggage to go and live abroad again. No I don't have a phat Filipino wife, but I have gone hugely into physical assets in order to ready myself for the inevitable collapse of FIAT currencies. I do plan on being extremely wealthy in my retirement years, and I hope I can overwinter in places like Thailand and Southern Spain.

I was Happier Abroad for a while but Covid killed that off.

Re: A Memorial Thread: Remembering Ghost
What country was your uncle from? Is he White or Asian? Any motives given? Depression, events in real life (divorce, loss of employment, illness), or was it entirely random?xiongmao wrote: ↑February 8th, 2023, 9:28 am@Ghost was really interesting. Certain countries do have higher rates of suicide. White men and Asian men also have higher rates of suicide.

Re: A Memorial Thread: Remembering Ghost
I didn't dox Ghost, another poster (whose name I forgot...) doxxed him but for some reason I got the blame. If the thread is still there you can see it for yourself. I actually took a ban off Winston for 'doxxing' Ghost and then when it transpired this other poster actually did it and Winston saw it - my ban was lifted.
Ghost got into trolling with folks on here - if he hadn't had done - none of what happened would have happened.
And I was more than happy and willing to meet up with Ghost - I would have no problem with that or with anyone else at all.

A) I didn't dox himPixel--Dude wrote: ↑February 4th, 2023, 5:35 amTo be honest I thought this thread had something to do with the Patrick Swayze movie of the same namenever met Ghost. Anyone who threatens to dox someone or whatever its called is just a f***ing fanny. If Yick did do something like that then he shouldn't be allowed back here. But I wasn't around when all this shit went down. If someone threatened to dox me I'd invite them over to my neighbourhood and punch their lights out. People need to grow the f**k up

and
B) I was more than happy to go to his neighbourhood because that was discussed - my lights wouldn't have got punched out though. Ghost started trolling and the end result of what happened was what happened - play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
